Hey,
I woke up and my BS was 8.8 at 9:15am and had my usual dose of insulin (Humalog Mix25) but I forgot to roll the bottle to mix it properly so it was not quite the right mix I don't think.
I had a bowl of cornflakes with sweetner and semi skimmed milk with a cup of tea (My Usual)
I checked my blood at 11:20am and it was 16.5 so I took 5 units of clear and now I have check my blood again at 1:00pm (Before Lunch) and I am 18.3.
I have not eaten a thing since the clear insulin so now am confused, any ideas for the really odd high blood suagr?
Any ideas would be great, thanks!

I've found that if my BG is really high, it can sometimes go UP before it starts to come down, even after taking insulin. I'm always tempted to give myself more insulin but then I pay for that later by going too low.
I have never used mixed insulins, since they're really not practical for a Type 1. I'm not sure what type of long acting insulin is in your mix, NPH? Not sure what it's called in the UK. But if you forgot to mix the insulin, maybe you didn't get any (or enough) long acting insulin in your morning shot and that's causing you to run higher.

Well my blood is 9.1 now but I have only had some egg since the 5 units of clear so am pretty sure I must have not got hardly any long acting.
I am on a mix called Humalog Mix25 if you know it.
Will be doing my dinner time injection in 30 min or so and God I can't wait to eat lol and I WILL mix it this time haha.

What do you mean by "clear"? Are you trying to skim the Humalog off the NPH? If so, you can't. I've tried to skim the clear off the cloudy from bottles of pure NPH, thinking it would act like Regular, and it acts like NPH. I don't think the solid material in NPH is necessary at all for it to be in character.

If your BGs went that high you either a) got too much long acting and not enough short acting or b) hit a bad absorbtion site. Since you know you didn't roll it, I'd guess you got too much long acting and not enough short. But that would mean you drew from the are of high concentration of suspended particles which seems unlikely.

Well I took my normal evening dose and am 6 now, I really don't know what that was about earlier because as I said, the clear had no effect.
Oh yeah and when I say clear I mean "Actrapid" my fast acting insulin.

Glad the bg has returned to more acceptable values. I've found that my insulin sensitivity decreases with increased bg. Thus if my bg is very high, I need to adjust my ISF to get a good correction bolus.

Have you considered trying Novorapid or Humalog instead of Actrapid? It works faster.

Hi gobbly,
For some reason even with me if my blood sugar is higher in the morning even with a normal dose of insulin and something to eat or whatever will make me higher, I know what I always do is take a correction dose plus my normal insulin then I wait about 30 minutes to an hr then I eat, but I constantly monitor my blood sugar to make sure no sudden drop, and then I usually do fine......I have to have a bg under 120 in order to just shoot up and eat in the morning if I don't than I am high really high after breakfast, weird yes but that is me....and I just thought that sounded a lot like what i go thru with breakfast sometimes.....
