I am 32 years old Type2. I have been for 3 years now.
I take metformin twice a day at my fasting glucose is around 7 mmol. I am struggling to figure out what to eat in the mornings, lunch, snacks etc. Does anyone have any ideas. Are apples good for you, oranges, bananas. What else can i eat.

For the most part, foods with a lot of carbs or with carbs that have a high glycemic index are going to raise your bg faster and higher than low carb, low glycemic index foods. Protein also affects your bg, but at a slower rate and to a lesser degree. Fats tend to have the least affect on bg and fat can slow digestion to help reduce a fast, sharp rise in bg.

Hi, welcome to the forums, you'll like it here and you'll get tons of info
Things I can suggest is
Cereal with lots of fiber in, such as bran flakes, raisin bran etc
you can eat lots of fruits and veggies at anytime, you should learn what fruits will spike your levels and what doesnt. I eat apples, pineapples, grapes, strawberries, blackberries, oranges, kiwis, lemons and very rarely (cause i dont care for them) banana's
there are lots available
you could also eat oatmeal depending on how you fix it.

Hi TJ626 :wavey: Welcome to DF :)
Limit things like pastas, breads, rice, potatoes, corn and of course things high in sugar ... these are high(er) in carbs and are what raise your blood glucose levels. Most veggies are low in carbs ... fruits, well, that can be another story. I myself can't eat much fruit as they tend to raise my BGL.
Have you seen a dietitian/nutritionist? If so, she/he should have given you a diet plan and told you how many carbs and calories you should consume per meal and day. Just as an average, males should consume about 65g carbs per meal and about 30g per snack. If you haven't, start reading the nutrition labels of the foods you eat, paying close attention to the carb count and serving size.
If you've already been doing these things, and you are still having trouble keeping your BGL's down, then you may need an adjustment to your meds, so you'll need to consult your doctor about that.
As you'll quickly learn here, each person is different ... what affects one a certain way, doesn't always affect another the same way. ;)
Search the forums here, you'll find LOTS of good info!!
Good Luck!

HI & Welcome! The members before me all gave you excellent advice. I can eat 1/2 a medium apple without a big rise in my blood sugar. I also snack on walnuts & almonds in between meals.

Hi TJ, welcome! You've already gotten some good advice.
For breakfast, I try to have eggs...they hold my hungar at bay and cause no rise in blood sugar. I alternate that with S. Beach High Protein Cereal Bar. I don't care for cereal and most have too many carbs for me, so I can't advise you there. I have found that the lower my carbs, the lower my levels and the more satisfied I feel hunger-wise.
As for fruit, I have found that cantaloupe, cherries, strawberries and green apples have very little effect on my levels. I can eat 8-10 grapes w/o problems as well.
A great website I have found is dietfacts.com. It lists restaurants and their menus, including carbs, as well as brand name foods. It's been really helpful in knowing carb content.
Also, I've just finished TypeII Diabetes-the first year, by Gretchen Becker. It was a very informative and well-written book with lots of good information.
I know this is more than you probably wanted to know, but i'm feeling "helpful" this morning. ;)
Again, welcome!

I have found that oatmeal spikes my blood sugar in a major way, which is too bad because I love oatmeal. I usually just stick to toast or maybe some cold cereal. Not much of a breakfast eater. Welcome to the group, nice to meet you.
