Hi..
Quick question...
Yesterday morning, I had eggs with about a teaspoon or so of Honey on them. My morning reading before breakfast was 128... 4 hrs later, I honestly expected my sugar to still be high - because of the honey... but... it was one of my lowest ever - 87.
My question is... did the honey cause a rapid high then a rapid low (lower than normal)?? Is this what "sugars" do vs what carbs do - where it seems the "high" lasts much longer?
Thanks..

You should be checking 2 hours after the meal instead of 4 hours. Also, I don't think a single teaspoon of honey is going to make a whole lot of difference. Many times these odd readings can me blamed on the inaccuracy of the glucose meter.

yes, i agree with wise guy..... always check 2 hours after. thats how long it takes to start digesting your food..... anything after that is going to be lower
for example
12 noon, you take your first bite of food
12:15 you will start to see an increase of glucose in the body
1pm to 1:30pm you will probably hit your spike
2 pm your coming down from your spike
while i may not be totally accurate on this as far as time wise, but I know if i test 4 hours after, im back down to normal again, which doesnt give you the info needed in order to be able to determine what affects you badly or what you can eat...
Do you always check 4 hours after eating??? Cause by this time you should be eating again for your next meal or snack

I find that a teaspoon of honey is perfectly ok but I wouldn't have it if I'm doing something entirely sedentary. My limit is one teaspoon.

Stacey,
HI.. thanks for the time line.. I've wondered how that works... as for my testing.. I do test after 2 hrs... but.. I have been testing from the time I stop eating, not start... so I'll change that..thank you!!
I already know that most complex carbs shoot me through the roof.. I've found very little carb things I can eat..
Thanks again for the information..
