View Full Version : Byetta and Lada / Type 1.5
Has anyone with Lada/Type 1.5 tried Byetta or Januvia? I am curious if anyone has heard or knows if these relatively new medicines could be a potential treatment for slow onset Lada diabetes.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Byetta is for type 2 diabetics. You may want to look into Symlin, which is for both types...

Both Januvia and Byetta rely on fully functional beta cells. Which is why they are not suitable for T1s. If you are T1.5, these medications might work in the short term. But the stimulation of your remaining beta cells would shorten their life, making you fully dependent on injected insulin sooner that you need to be.

I think the deficiency that leads to the need to take Symlin only happens after many years of having Type 1, though.

Ah, I see now. The important factor is beta cell failure, not necessarily type.

One of the main things that Symlin does is slow down the digestion of food, allowing your insulin to be able to handle the post meal spike much better. While I had my CGMS, I did an experiment with a plate of spaghetti and Symlin. The food had approximately 90g of carbs and protein (which I didn't take into account). I watched my bg actually go slightly down for about 2 hours, then it breifly spiked up to about 120 before coming back to target.
