Mine was 130/90 and my dr didn't say anything about it, but the next week when I saw a nurse practitioner I had the same reading and she said it was to high and gave my meds for it. Do you think I need them?

normally if you have high readings two times in a row maybe...
did they recheck it before you left the office each time?

Hi Mindy:
Normal BP is devined as less than 120/80
Broderline HTN is defined as 120-139/80-89
High BP is 140-150/90-99
Sounds like you're borderline. Maybe your doc is being more aggressive since you have diabetes as well. My doc told me I should never go over 120/80 with diabetes...I'm on an ace-inhibitor that keeps me at that level or less most of the time.
If I were you, i'd check my BP at different times throughout the day and keep a log to show the doctor. With you being only borderline, you may notice it dropping quite low. It may be that you can lower it without medicines by watching your sodium intake and other lifestyle modifications.

i was diagnosed @ the age of 19 with High BP, and i was only slightly over weight at that point, i was being examined for my quarterly supply of Birth control pills at the local health department.
I remember the day I went in, they tested my BP, it was extremely high. I went ahead and had my exams etc.. by the end of the appointment (before they gave my BC pills) they tested me again to see if I went any lower, since sitting in the doc's office well can raise your blood pressure etc.. Well it didnt go down in fact it went up a bit....
They immediately took me off birth control and said you need to see your family doc ASAP
i would say if you had the two readings at different times, its time for the meds, im just wondering if they retested later before letting you leave the office before making the decision?
