Hi It is me again I have been feeling great since getting rid of my 2(4L) bottles of regular pop per day My Doctor said" I have a strange way of trying to keep my weight on" LOL). I went from weighting 221 to 202 within 1 month and as I said above feeling great. However in the last couple of days have felt a little worse nothing like before giving up my sugar fix,but a little worse and I am losing a little more weight( which I want to as I'm 5' 10" and should be about 185-190).Just wondering after the rapid improvement is a minor set back normal. Thanks again for the help.

Jedi: Can you give more details as to how you are feeling?

Sounds like you're doing well with your weight loss. Good job!

It's so easy to be consumed with the diagnosis and treatment of our diabetes. I know that even now, 6 months into diagnosis, if I get a headache, I wonder about my blood sugar, if my toe hurts, I wonder about my blood sugar.

I did feel much better after diagnosis, when my levels started coming down to normal after being high for so long. Now, I have days when I feel really good and days when I feel "not so great." For the most part, though, I feel "normal."

Congratulations on the weight loss....may I ask how high your sugar goes drinking a regular soda(pop)??? I was given a choice eat a healthy meal or drink a regular soda lol...

When first diagnosed, I made the mistake of drinking a regular coke and I sent my blood sugars sky high

Hi Princess Linda:I sometimes feel a little sluggish, a noticeable drop in energy levels they come back in about 30 mins and I'm ok for quite awhile after that, also sometimes I need to take a power nap( Yes I'm a old fart 46 LOL, just kidding not old).:D :)

Mzizgayle; Before I found out I was type 2 my random numder was 31.7:eek: I pretty well quit my sugared pop habit and candy only drink diet pop and sugar free candies. I like Coke zero or pepsi-lime and drink much more water (1.5 L Daily) I do not drink anything that has sugar in it and do not miss it at all. Funny once we know that something is like poision for us we grow rather quickly to not miss it LOL. hope this helps:)

Jedi: How are your levels? Are you testing regularly? Whenever my blood sugar gets high, I feel very lethargic, like I could just "nod off" wherever I am at the time. I've learned if I feel really sleepy to test, and then get up and exercise, as that brings me down rather quickly.

Be sure and test 2 hrs after starting a meal, so you can see how certain foods affect your levels. This way, you'll know what you can eat regularly and what to avoid. You may be doing this already. I've found the lower carb I eat, the better I feel and my levels reflect this.

I think also that our bodies have to adjust to the disease...the levels have been high for so long that our bodies think that's normal for them and it may have to adjust to the normal levels.

I've just finished a great book you might want to read...Type 2 Diabetes: The first year, by Gretchen Becker. It was very informative and well-written, answered a lot of questions I didn't even know I had and I could really relate to a lot of her experiences.

Hope you start feeling better soon. Keep your doc updated if you continue to feel somewhat unwell, though hopefully, it's just an adjustment period for you. Keep check on your blood sugars as well.

Linda

Hi Linda: Thanks for the book recomondation, I would suggest a book that I use to plan my shopping up here in Canada,I would think it is avilable in the states too. " The New Glucose Revolution By Dr. Jennie Brand Miller" it is only $8.95 up here, it lists the G.I of alot of foods I say don't leave home without it. Thanks for the advice I HATE  needles but will be getting a meter soon and will be seeing my doctor next week. I have a friend who is a holistic nutritionist she is helping me too with what to stay away from things such as( White pasta,White bread,Highly refined rice, cereal's, etc)

Jedi:
I promise, you'll get used to the needle sticks. I'm the original scardy-cat whenever it comes to needles or shots, but after the first couple of weeks, I hardly think of it, it's just what I do now. You'll do fine! We just have to do whatever it takes to keep our blood sugars under control, so we can avoid all the potential complications.

Your doc may be able to give you a monitor....In the states, our drug reps leave monitors for the docs to distribute...that's how I got mine. Also, there's a diabetic freebie thread here that has a link for free monitor..check it out (not sure if it would work in Canada or if it's just here in the states, but we have several Canadians here who would know).

Thanks for the book recommendation. The more we know, the better off we'll be. Sounds like you're getting good advice already from your friend. Keep us posted on how things are going with you.
Linda
