RIOMET® - Ranbaxy Laboratories, Inc. - Home: Have you heard about the liquid choice? (http://www.riomet.com/default.asp)

It's an ad for oral metformin, that's liquid. Liquid- so kids don't need to swallow a pill. And they have the kid there advertising it. I know kids get type 2, but that kid looks to be about 8 years old. *sigh* Are medications like this making it easier for kids to get type 2? I would think having to take a pill would be a good reason to try and avoid meds and really work on lifestyle changes. But no, pharmagiants make it easier for them to take the meds. Or is it just a reflection of succumbing to the inevitable?

I have a friend who has an esophageal stricture and is unable to swallow large pills...she has had to get the liquid metformin a few years back...and ins. did not cover the liquid version, so she had to pay extra to have it specially ordered for her. I think it's great that there is an alternative...esp for those who are younger, older or have other problems making swallowing difficult.

I think it's mainly the excessive, super-sized lifestyle and lack of activity that is contributing to more kids getting T2 diabetes more than anything else. I don't see that having a liquid medication would do anything more than make it easier for these kids to be more compliant with their meds than in pill form.

Then why on earth do they have a kid on the home page? I guess he's over 10.
