when I woke up 7:00 AM bs was 185 (abnormal)
Then I took 10 units of Lantus/Actos
then I ate 10 carbs/bacon
Now bs is 201 and its 5 hours later

This is not normal for me, any ideas?

I know nothing about insulin...but are you stressed or getting sick? Either could cause your levels to raise like that.

when your very high, your body is starting to release sugars from the liver for energy, you only use lantus ?, this works very slow, I think it is to slow to compensate for the sugars your body is making. I dont know how high your number are in mmol thow. Since you dont use rapid or other fast acting insulin and cant get your sugars down you perhaps better contact a doctor I think.

You might need a fast acting insulin, like novolog. Or you could need more lantus if you are running high all day. You should run the ideas here by your dr.. I am not fimilar with Actos - other then it being an oral anti d med.

Sometimes or most of the time if I wake up higher, I am gonna be higher for the rest of day unless I correct it with insulin like fast acting, but I would suggest take a walk and keep a watch on your sugars, maybe the lantus needs to be upped and what not........but 185 and 5 hrs later 201 it is not the lantus, it is a high day for whatever reason, probably need to move around................or like most said are you stressed or sick.....

How long did you wait before eating? If you're high I think it's a good idea to wait til numbers are normal before eating - give your body a healthier number to start working from before you add any more carbs to the system. Easier with a fast acting insulin of course...

Do you get much exercise? A little walk could do wonders for you.

Personally I wont eat if I'm over 7mmol (126) as it means peaking higher. Any time I spend over about 8.5 feels horrible and makes me stay higher for longer - The higher I am the harder it is to get down, the more insulin it takes, and the more I want desperately to EAT even though it's the last thing I should be doing!

What type of Diabetic are you? And how long since you were diagnosed? If your numbers are creeping up all the time it might be the end of the honeymoon period, or just time for your bod to need more Lantus or start with a fast acting insulin, or maybe you've picked up a bug... there are heaps of reasons for changes like this. Whatever the reason, it's important for you to get those numbers down asap so you don't get stuck on the roller coaster ride of higher numbers.

Actually it's NOT good to wait to eat, but instead eat things with NO carbs in them, or VERY LOW carbs in them (and no or low fat)! Like a salad (lettuce), some eggs, raw veggies, lean meat, etc.

Reason: your liver goes into starvation mode, and thinks your body needs energy and therefore pumps out even MORE glucose, which makes your BGL go even higher! This is why alot of people keep on rising when they're running higher and haven't eaten a thing.
