No one seems to get this in my family. I am NOT being a brat, I am not just grumpy, it's because my blood sugar is low! If I could help it, I sure would.

My best friend knows this, she can tell sometimes before me if my sugar is low! haha.

It is quite frustrating though.

When I was little my parents would often test my bloodsugar if I was cranky.

These days, if I'm low and trying to get food or glucose tabs or something, I tend to be all thumbs....but this makes me so frustrated. My husband often ends up having to open the glucose tabs, or get the straw out of the wrapper for my juicebox before I end up in tears or throwing it on the floor. I'm still a cranky diabetic when I'm low. :o

Yea my old roommate would be like, I think you should test your sugar Jenn, and she would help me get something because I just couldn't handle it! haha.

It's super frustrating. My patience level completely goes down the drain.

I get very cranky and low on patience when I am low too. I tend to sigh real heavily at everything, even worse than usual, I'm a sigher, and have absolutely no patience at all with anything, including food containers, or anything that has plastic wrapping on it, or lifesavers that need to be opened. Glad to know I'm not the only one.:D

or anything that has plastic wrapping on it, or lifesavers that need to be opened.

Plastic wrapping is my nemesis even when I'm *not* low. We don't get along.

I'm also like KritterMom..........very cranky and I have NO patience at all. The smallest thing will set me off and I end up snapping at everyone around me.

I really do hate myself when I'm like that!

I used to think I got cranky when I was low because I'd get uber pissed. Then I had the islet transplant and found out Amy's just a pain in the booty when she's hungry, cause I still get cranky even when my bs is normal. ;) go figure.

That has got to be one of the most annoying things about diabetes; if you are genuinely uspet about something and get angry it is really annoying when someone says 'do you need some chocolate?'. It is such a shame that some people cannot allow you emotions that are not to do with diabetes. We do, after all, have all the same chemicals floating around our body as anyone else.

Funny, I don't get cranky when I am low, I get really weepy and paranoid. Especially if I am out alone shopping. I tend to want to get away from the public eye, and go to my car and eat glucose tabs until I feel better. Plus then I won't feel tempted to pig out on mall food! I always call my husband and tell him I am out and low, and if I don't call back, heres where I am parked. I hate the thought of drawing attention to myself in public.

Jenn L-I know exactly what you mean. I was at Krogers once and I went low-couldn't really see-just knew that I had to get out of the store. Tried to go out the in door. Don't know why I can't sit down and tell someone what is going on-but I can't let anyone know that I'm having a problem. Also I seem to be cranky most of the time anymore. It doesn't take much to make me cranky. Maybe it's just me. Beth

My teenage years.

Mom: "Go check your blood sugar."

Me: "No... Why should I?"

Mom: "If it's not low, you're grounded."

Oh my goodness! I am so happy I read the posts in here! I am so easy to get along with and always have been, but when low I get very upset, cry, and can't even think. They think I am being mean, except hubby who tells me to test my sugar. I am going to show my family I am not being mean when I am low!

This is funny. I'm the same way, I want to get out of the public eye and/or I get very cranky. I'm surprised I haven't been fired from work because I can get really pissed.

Agree here gary, it's annoying. It's fairly pointless telling someone you are not low you are just angry/upset/whatever, you get a disbelieving look, like they expect you to prove your not low before taking you seriously. fortunatly this has only happened a couple of times to me.

Yeah, that's something that the doctor never tells you, yet apparently there's been some sort of secret class held somewhere which means everyone knows that people with diabetes also suffer from a condition called IDIOT (It's Diabetes, It's the Only Trigger [yes I know that was ****, work with me here]).

This little understood condition (whereby you are apparently an 'IDIOT') means that EVERY little thing that happens in your life, be it an emotion, an illness, or the need to pull over at a motorway service station to have a pee, is caused entirely by the fact that 'you're a diabetic'.

Think about it, it's quite liberating though. Because now only diabetes causes things to happen to you, essentially you're invulnerable. Throw yourself off tall buildings and land with nary a scratch because only your blood sugar causes damage now! Have every visit to the doctor punctuated by the question 'so how's your blood sugar!' Don't be affected by personal catastrophes, because now you only can get upset when your BG isn't right! Enjoy the bizarrely flexible limits of BG that apparently cause you to be an IDIOT, changing according to whoever is performing your diagnosis!

My mood has gotten a lot more pleasant since I found out I have diabetes and started on medine, but I think in a lot of people, wild flucuations in addition to lows can make them cranky. Plus, nothing puts me in a witchier mood than when I'm hungry (and usually then levels are low).
