I started taking Lantus on March 1st.. at first I thought NO way this is working.. I still had quite afew high BS in the mornings... now I am waking up with BS in the am between 53 and 75... whoa! I dont like that feeling... is this normal?
How does one prepare to fast for a blood test when you wake up in the morning with such a low BS? when I called DR once.. she said 70's are not low! make sure you eat a balanced meal... I DO! and keep taking the oral meds along with it..
this morning I woke up at 4am (not sure why I did) I was feeling a little weird.. and BS was 63

fedup, what time do you inject the Lantus? Have you considered splitting the dosage?
That's a couple of things you might ask your doctor.
I tend to have early morning lows, and evening highs on Lantus, with one shot about 10 each evening.

i would say you would have to treat the low and re-book the test, especially if you needed to drive there.

I used to have a lot of problems with Lantus at night, so much so that I had to switch to taking the entire dose in the morning. I consider anything 70 and above to be fine, though for me I know my BG doesn't stay in the 70s for very long (it's either on the way down or on the way up). I would suggest testing overnight to see what's happening and when, and then possibly splitting your dosage or adjusting it if you split already.
If you go low before a fasting test I say absolutely treat it and then reschedule.

Fedup, for what it's worth, I'm a relative newb to Lantus, having been prescribed it only six weeks ago. I've been pulling some way low numbers, like you, and had the dose cut back twice since. I started at 10 units am and pm, cut back to 10/5, and now do 5/5. I also take Byetta 10/10, 2mg Prandin at each meal and 30 mg of Actos in the am.

I took Lantus 37 units at night...then switched to Levimir at the same dosage along with the boluses of Humalog. While I understand your dosage at first at 10 units am and pm .. what does the 10/5 and now 5/5 mean? Sorry, I am pretty new at this.
