I decided to splurge and pretend I was normal today. I had a foot long subway spicy italian (on wheat), a diet coke, and ***drum roll*** a MARS bar. That's a whopping 116 Carb lunch. **** on wheels I am. Well, I started out lunch at 4.5 (at tad low for my comfort). So, I started with a Dual Wave Bolus for the sub (82 carbs, 50% Insulin now, 50% Insulin over the next half hour) and saw how that went. An hour and a half later I was 5.8 :) . That's when I decided to start the MARS. I took another bolus to cover the MARS (34 carbs, PURE SUGAR). Two hours after that I was 6.2.

Oh did that taste great, and the BGs just made my day.

I find I can manage subway pretty good. I look on the site, pick my sub in their guide, and bolus for it.... (along with my two cookies! mmmmmmm)

I usually stay within targets quite well!

Exactly. I look up their nutrition guide too and it stays pretty close to what they say.

But now I've creeped up to 7.0 (another hour later). Of course, I also stopped my basal (for the reasons posted in my other thread "I need help")

Foot long subways are tough. I bolus for 97g of carbs when I have one. I've decided that I will stick with the 6 inch subs unless I have my Symlin handy.

Feels great eh Injecto?! Eating like a regular person! When first diagnosed, we feel like we can never eat normally again, but, slowly and surely..........:)

Yeah, I'd have to take almost a day's worth of boluses for that one sandwich~ but it would probably be worth it

glad you enjoyed it :)

I eat a 6 inch turkey pretty regularly - I usually figure 35 gms for that

Just checked their site and they claim 46
Official SUBWAY Restaurants' Nutrition Information (http://www.subway.com/applications/NutritionInfo/nutritionlist.aspx?id=sandwich)

ill have to try 46 and see what happens

I'm usually the 6 inch Turkey sub myself. The foot longs just foul me up. I bolus for the 6 inch 38g and if I feel good that day I might even get a bag of Sun Chips. There easy the carbs are right on the bag. Most of the time I'll eat the chips about an hour later. Works for me. Now I'm hungry for one!

That would have to be the best lunch you will ever have and to boot accurite as well. I should try that method to have half of the bolus before and after say in an hour.

Gee i miss the actrappid!!! :D

correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't a Mars bar have a ton of fat in it (like 15 grams or something)

did you check your sugar hours later? I don't know what your basal rate is or anything...

Hi. I'm a t2. What is bolus and pumping. I am not on medicine at this time (exercise and diet) but I'm not doing well with the diet part.

Hi. What is a pump? I'm a t2 but may be interested in talking to my doctor. My nutrition and exercise treatment isn't so effective.

A pump is a device that you have with you everywhare you go and it manages your delivery of insulin for the hole day. It also looks at Blood Glucose too. So it's a diabetes machine!!. Bolus is a term used for injecting fast acting insulin to balance the amount of food that you eat..

I have the same situation when i was working cutting some wood for the open log fire place and after cutting a ton of wood i have a low like 2.7mmol/l and i see a nice dagwood salad roll with a mud cake!!!. Now as we know that chocolate has the ability to keep you high for a wile so with that knowledge i did a bridge bolus like i take half now then eat then after 2 hours later have another injection of the same fast acting and test an hour later. it is rare that i do this but on the occasions it's nice. :D

Hi there Tina! I'm a type 1, so I have to take insulin. Just over a year ago, I got an insulin pump, which infuses the insulin into your body through a cannula that stays in for 3 days at a time. It's much better than taking needles, multiple times a day! Just GOOGLE insulin pumps and you'll get tonnes of information. If I was a type 2 with poor blood glucose control, I'd definately talk to my doctor about going on insulin. (and eventually the pump) I think most people are scared to start insulin because of their fear of needles, but I'd be more scared of the future complications that come with high blood glucose! I have a great friend that's type 2 and I'm always trying to convince him to talk to his doctor about going on insulin, but so far he hasn't. Well, good luck to you!
