and I could be done with them.
I swear I could dose myself in my sleep, so doing the shot is second nature.
However there certainly is something to be said for not having to do it ever again with the possibility inhaled insulin offers.
I will start this possibilty tomorrow. I am not sure why that excites me,but it most certainly does. Except for the basal shot I could be free of the of the old ball and chain. If it doesn't allow me the control I need,so be it,but for the moment, I am free.

I'm not enthused about the insulin inhalers primarily because you can't be very accurate if you're at all sensitive to insulin, and that bothers me far more than injections do. I've wondered sometimes what I would do if I were suddenly "cured", and I think it would take me a long time to stop calculating what carbs and proteins and fats I'm consuming, and how long it will take to digest, and how many units of which insulins to give (I use Humalog and Regular to bolus, and am on MDI). In other words, a 24-hour leave would be no holiday. I've been thinking as a diabetic for 21 years, by the way, which may explain it.

I heard the inhalers weren't very accurate for dosing. Have you considered a pump? Good luck...

I have been on injections for 32 years. I don't want to calculate the number of shots but it is well up in the 5 figure range like you. I have switched to the pump 5 months ago and would not go back. I never minded the shots but this is much better. I thought it would be an adjustment and I would be looking for the needle. Never gave it a second thought. I have not had to inject in 5 months. Could not be happier I went this way. I have also heard the inhalers are not very accurate and they do not know what the long term probelms with sinus could be. I'll stick to the pump for now.

If it was not for the symlin I would feel the same way about the accurate dosing. The symlin, levels the playing field so much for me I want to check it out.
I was on the pump for a few months. I just could not stand the thing haning off me.

I cannot say the last two days have been a resounding success. On both days by 2hr post pandrial lunch I was in the low 200's. I had enough and corected with apidra(I had promised my doctor that I wouldn't correct, but enough is enough!) But this snorting then injecting thing can't last.
So my corrective action will be to increase the dose by 1mg which is 3u (for you nonsnorters out there) But like someone said that is a lot of insulin.
I thought that I would be able to adapt with the symlin, but it has not happened yet.
These last two days I have felt naked without injections. It exposed a psychological need the injection gave me as these years crawl by. For truly the body loves the gratification of having insulin delivered so quickly. I can also see the crutch the injection provides. The control can be so obsessive(at least for me) So I committed to my doctor two weeks.

I have increased my insulin intake with a little better results.It seems to me that the potency of inhaled insulin is less than the injected,so my numbers are better. I miss the security the injections provided me in knowing the results. I suppose that I can know that security with the inhaler over time, Too many years of relying on the injections, I suppose.
As well, when I injected in public it was in full view but still I I could be discreet . That luxury is no longer an option. The inhaler is loud and proud. I can't help but think that it looks like something someone would buy off the internet to snort their cocaine. I am awaiting to be handcuffed and arrested in Subway.
