abdominal pain

i get abdominal pain st when bg is hi...180 or so. what is physiology behind this...is it harmful in long term??????

it only happens sometines...it goes away when bg returns to norm...st i get nauseous also...it seems to come from pancreas...are my beta cells dying or being overworked?:confused:

I have had the same before, I can't tell you if it is related to diabetes or if it is just one of those things but I do have one bit of advise, keep your sugar levels under control in the first place.

That way you have one less thing to worry about!

Sorry, I don't think I've heard of this, but would you mind telling more about the pain? Like, how long does it last? Is it constant, or in twinges, or something else? Where in the abdomen is it? Stabbing, burning, pressure, "electric," twisting, slicing, throbbing? What ever else you can say about it....

I remember that for a couple of years before I was diagnosed, I would feel twinges, maybe spasms of "almost intense" pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen shortly after starting a meal. The pain was in the area where the tail of the pancreas is, maybe around the 8th or 9th rib. It felt like it was in a spot the size of my thumbprint. It was strong enough that I thought something was wrong and it worried me, yet I never went to a doctor.

I don't remember when I stopped having that pain. I never thought about it being connected to diabetes until sometime later. Does the pancreas have nerves that can generate pain? I don't know. I'm thinking it doesn't, as pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed so late stage. If the pancreas could feel pain maybe those cancers would be found sooner.

it lasts however long bg is hi---around 170 mgs and higher...it does NOT always happen wen bg is hi tho...has happened wen bg is lo...once or twice. i read that keto can cause pain wen hi OR lo. weird that it doest last long, bc i stop taking in sugar or watever made me go hi in first place bc i feel bad...with pain /nausea...and goes away wen bg falls. i get nauseous also. its a constamt, burning? pain above navel...in pancreas, i think. dr said hi bg CAN cause it, left it at that. wonder if bete cells r bing damaged.. and that causes pain...

I too would have some abdominal pain, but this was during a four year period where I wasn't taking insulin. I've been taking much better control of myself for the past eleven months, and haven't had any abdominal pain.

The pain I would have would be excrutiating, about four to five inches to the left and right of my belly button and stretching to the sides. No matter how I moved, twisted or held my breath - it wouldn't go away. They were a constant "dull" pain. It would come on suddenly and last a full five to six minutes, and then would go away just as fast as it came on. I figured it was *maybe* my kidneys throwing a fit but, I have not the slightest idea what it really was. I would get the pains very rarely though, maybe once every two months or so. A1C was 13.4 about a year ago, though I'm certain it was higher at some points during those four years.

Do these pains sound similar?

Ok, have you been checked for gallstones (gall bladder is on the left side, why I asked which side), irritable bowl syndrome, coloretic diarrhea or celiac disease? It may not be related to your BGL, but rather what you have eaten.

I had high blood sugars for at LEAST 3 years(most probably longer -that's just when I bought a meter and started checking) before being dx'ed (consistently 200- 300+) and never had that problem before, so unless that's a 'by person' thing, I don't know that it's a 'symptom' of high blood sugars.

Being at the height/level you say and also having IBS, I would thihnk your pain is in the intestines.

The pancreas is at the top of the abdomen, partly under the ribs. There is a saying that the romance in the abdomen is between the duodenum and the pancrease because the pancrease lies in the arms of the duodenum. I know, I know that sounds really stupid. Probably it sounded great in Latin or something way back when...Anyway, it just tells you that the pancreas is way up high where the stomach empties into the first part of the small intestine, the duaodenum. The duodenum cradles the pancreas.

I read your foot post, too, and I'll mention here that I too think you should have abnormalities in your foot looked at. I'll go post in that thread.
