Hi, godchild.

The weight loss is not something absolutely to be expected. The most important thing is that it lowers your blood glucose. Has that happened? If it isn't lowering blood glucose, you might need to take more. I think Byetta is one of those meds that is started low and then increased until you find the effective level.

Perhaps you already have a doctor's appointment scheduled to review whether you need to increase the Byetta.

Do you inject it one hour before eating? Do you use it before every meal and snack? Or do you take it once/twice a day?

How long have you been diabetic that you know of? I ask because Byetta works by causing a greater level of pancreatic enzymes (including amylin and insulin) to be secreted when you eat. But if you have had diabetes for quite a while, especially with high blood glucose levels, then you might no longer have enough Beta cells (the amylin and insulin secreting cells) left to significantly respond to the Byetta.

I'm curious about whether you find Byetta suppresses your appetite. If it is stimulating production of amylin, it should be helping to reduce your appetite if you time taking it before your meals properly. I imagine that is the main way it helps with weight loss, though I'm not certain.

Are you on other meds, or have you tried other meds with any success?
