This one's a mechanical question... I just started a new pen a few days ago, and it seemed to be working okay, though my BG's have been slightly higher than normal... I've been attributing this to a recent cold.

Anyway, after counting to five and removing the needle from my skin, I've noticed a hanging droplet clinging to it. This morning, after it happened, I put a bit more downward pressure on the button, which appeared to be completely depressed, and to my surprise, a stream of liquid flew out of the thing. I'm wondering if I have a defective pen, and if I'm even getting a dose out of the thing.

The other variable in all this is that this is my first 10 mcg pen, I've been taking two shots from a 5 mcg since last month, when my endo increased the dose, so it's hard to tell if any liquid at all has left the unit.

I thought I'd ask here before I trotted off to the pharmacy with this issue. Anyone have a problem similar to this?

Hi Mike...

I have had a hanging droplet clinging to the needle each and every time I inject. Am I doing something wrong? How do you avoid this?

Interesting about the stream coming out after the plunger was already depressed. I just had that happen yesterday morning on the 10mcg pen for the first time. It has been okay since. Just one of those freak things, I guess. Keep an eye on the black plunger in the pen. You should see it gradually moving downward.

If you think you may have a problem with the pen, call the company. I understand that are pretty good at replacing them.

Thanks, lewster... the hanging drop could mean we're pulling it out too soon, but the streaming tip must have been a transient thing.... I tried to show my wife what happened at dinner, and it worked fine. Thanks for the tip, though, and I'm gonna keep watching this issue closely over the next few days.

****! I just got over being sick, and now after visiting with my wife's neice, who announced she was sick and then cooked for us, we are both coming down with something new, so my BG's are up a bit, probably thanks to her...:(

What a bummer! Your Resistance must have been low from your last illness. With the nice weather just a couple of days away, you'll be able to get out in the warm sun and get over whatever it is you have. Hope you're feeling better soon.

my first time with byetta this morning.. when I reset the pen a stream came out of the pen... am I doing something wrong..
the pen was setup in the Dr office by the nurse.. I followed the instructions for the routine use.. set the dose, 5 and injected, push the plunger down until it stopped..counted to 10 to make sure.. removed the needle and reset the pen and viola.. a little stream came out

Hi, been on Byetta now for about 4 or 5 months, this has happened to me also, what you have to do is remove the needle before you reset the pen.

How long did it take before you noticed any change? side effects? I am hoping for the best.. I talked my endo into byettta because the humalog and novalog didnt agree with me.. she said byetta wasnt her first choice for me.. when I told her the first choice wasnt working.. she gave in.. I am really hoping to prove her wrong :)

I agree. I've been on Byetta for 3 months, and have never encountered this problem, other than a little droplet at the end of the needle.

Fedup, you should start seeing results almost immediately, including those wonderful side effects such as nausea; however, you probably won't experience the side effects as much until you switch over to the higher dosage (10mcg). If you can get past that, the stuff is great. In addition to losing quite a bit of weight, I hardly ever have an appetite, which is unfortunate, since I'm going to a wedding this weekend.
