View Full Version : Does the pump make you feel Un-Sexy?

Just wondering how you fellow pumpers now perceive yourselves wearing the pump/infusion site. For guys it may be a bit less of an issue, but even still Iike to take the shirt off while doing yard work and let the ladies take a gander at my lovely curves (mostly round ones, particularly in the mid section). For women I can see this being a bit more of an issue (to them, not me, a little infusion site does NOT take away from your "look"). But I'm curious what you all think. Summers around the corner, tank tops, halter tops, NO tops (for guys.....), bathing suites, therefore it must be an issue to some extent, I would think.

I myself don't feel that the pump/infusion site takes away anything that I didn't have before, or not THAT much more.

"I'm too sexy for my pump, too sexy for my pump, what'cha think about that?"

Sorry, couldn't resist! LOL

I put my infusion site, way down by my hip bone, or right above my butt. I am a 30 year old mom of 2 who is in amazing shape, but I don't wear clothes that are too revealing. I still get hit on every day, so I guess i am still pretty cute !;)

Call me vein, but this is one of the many reasons I won't pump. It's not sexy, but I sometimes walk around naked. Also sex. Granted, in most cases, a girl will know I have diabetes before I sleep with her, but none-the-less I wouldn't want to expose her to that. Every single person I have talked to about this in the real world says that the pump has never interfered with their sex life at all. I find that ultra hard to believe.

Shouldn't you get to know her first, before sleeping with her? You wouldn't want to share with her that you have diabetes first or no?

Absolutely, and I was trying to convey that I most likely wouldn't be in bed with a girl that didn't know I was diabetic (the last time a girl didn't know was Vegas mohahaha). I just don't want my site rubbing up (irritating) against her. I have other things that do that :) .

I don't know about the set and pump itself, but if Aaron was a girl, I'm pretty sure he would have stopped using angled sets completely by now. They leave a pretty obvious mark, and they take a really long time to go away. That would be an issue in summer with belly tops and bikinis for sure!

And --I know a young woman who has no problems at all with the infusion set, but decided against the CGMs when she saw how big it was. Now THAT is not sexy, under or without clothes (her comment: sticks out like a third boob). Good thing they've brought out something flatter.

(PS I can't see that his pump has detracted from his girl appeal at all... at least not from the way they were yelling out his name at his last gig.)

I'm not a pumper, but I personally would think that anyone who found someone unatractive, or even less sexy, because of a pump needs some serious help!
Are people really that shallow???

Only if you add the "performance enhancing drugs" into the rervoir rather than insulin....I keep a reservoir filled with both next to the bed;)

As an ex-pumper, I voted yes, absolutely. For most of my pumping experience, it really didn't bother me, but when I started having problems, I hated it - I hated it being on me, I hated the way I couldn't hide it, I hated the way the sites looked on me, I hated the way they scarred me, I hated it all. So yes, it made me feel terribly un-sexy for the last year or two.

And yes, I've had the unfortunate experience of people being .... hmm... how best to put it.... disgusted? nah too harsh, maybe weirded out? by it. And no, I wasn't with shallow partners at the time, sometimes these things just weird out normal, caring human beings. For me, sex with the pump was annoying and if it didn't turn the partner off, it definitely turned me off!

I know, I know, I have a very negative view on it! :D

I feel exactly the same! I just take the pump off during sex. As for summer clothes, there's always a spot to hide the site. (even in a bikini) On the beach, I check my bg, then take off my pump and put it in my beachbag. No one sees the site under my bikini bottoms. I just check my blood every so often and if I need insulin then I just hook-up, blast, and take it off again. No worries here!

Not that I'm shallow :D but I have to admit, esthetically speaking, if I wasn't on the pump myself, I'd find the infusion site unappealing. I had no problems while I was married, but have definitely had confidence issues since I've been single.

To me, my diabetes shouldn't be a distraction during such pleasant activities. I find that diabetes sometimes (treating lows) takes away some spontaneity, but forgetting about the pump and infusion site would require a mild case of Alzheimer's.

Shouldn't you get to know her first, before sleeping with her? You wouldn't want to share with her that you have diabetes first or no?

I'd rather be honest than politically correct, so I have to ask: are we on the hallmark channel - am I the only one to have had sex with people because they were too gorgeous and the circumstances just right?

It's obvious I feel strongly and have lots of issues with this topic, but keeping this a family site, I'll refrain from going into further detail. I'm taking a short break from the pump and will hopefully have some data for comparison in the near future. ;)

It has never bothered me in the slightest. I've been wearing the pump on my shirt (as seen in pictures) for the past 11 years.

It could be that I just don't give a rat's a** what other people think, and would rather lead & educate (ok, well, attempt to educate) people when they ask. Lately however, I've noticed several folks knew what it was without asking (could be 'cause I've been wearing the ADA luggage tag I got at the expo around my neck! LMAO) - Yeah, I know, I'm nuts...but I really don't care. ;)

As for fun activities.....it hasn't bothered there, either. Just lay it beside ya (or there are other methods to keep the tubing from tickling your partner) & you're good to go! :D

Like most things
If you want it and like it and use it then no it doesnt get in the way or effect your self image

If you hate it, resist it and despise it, then yes it sucks the life out of you.

Its all what you make of it - In the 2 years I have been pumping I have had less than 10 people even notice and most of them were just commenting on it since they just saw me test my BG or what ever...

One of the things I like about the new Cozmo software is it will remind you to reconnect. Lets say you engage in an activity that you would prefer to not wear the pump for ( I have done it both ways ), and that activity has a trendency to make you sleepy right after.. :T The disconnect reminder and basal compensator would come in handy...

How soon in a relationship do you tell your date you have diabetes? First date, second... When... And how do you go about telling your date? Hi my name is Tony and I have Diabetes...

Beth, watch out. I have a funny feeling Brian is going to leave some vital information In Vegas!

To me personally, I don't have the pump, I was just always wondering if it got in the way, I figured i'd disconnect when it is one of those steamy roll around on the you know what kind of love makin, but the I am in the mood a 15 minutes not even takin all the clothes off I wouldn't even bother with it.

As for self image, look I have had four kids, and umm well I wasn't one of the lucky ones that dont' have the marks to prove, I don't skimp along in a bikini anyway, cause I got my baby marks on the belly........oh and that is yucky enough in itself, and since I already have a hubby that get's turned on seeing me in the buff and doesn't pay no mind to my marks on the tummy then the stuff from the pump should make me be no different in my opinion, I think the only thing he is most concerned with is hurting my site or smashing the pump, but like I said, I will disconnect for wild love:T

plus most normal men are for boobs and butts anyway, if they worry about all the other things I'd run the other way........lol

So many people here are talking about disconnecting beforehand. I use the "quick set" and I rarely keep the little cap that goes on top to shower.

When you disconnect, are you using that cap (for quick set users)? I don't and I know it has caused problems while having sex. Many times my site has scratched my wife or the site just comes off. This has happened mostly when I wear my site on the front side of my thigh though.

Yup, but the great thing is that it's not a problem to the pumper, just the pumpee....LOL...

No cap. Plue, the scratching can easily twisted as a "playing rough" kind of play....

plus most normal men are for boobs and butts anyway

I suppose I'm not normal then...

I thought about my comment after I wrote that:o I meant that if someone is so defined in worrying about a mark on the body then I'd run the other way cause some men just are concerned about the package not the marks, lol.......and some don't care period it is just the personality........didn't mean to offend....;)

I was honestly thinking about my husband, he always tells me u got boobs and a butt, why do i care about the marks lol I think he says that to make me feel better cause his ex had none of that either so I think it boils down to well, if your a good person it shines thru any fault period......I had to learn that the hard way cause my strectch marks freaked me out and I was like one of those who did rub the lotion and gained 40 pounds tops with the third one, and then seeing other woman gain 100 with a tiny slim of a nothing grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr................lol, scratch my booty and butt comment, we should all focus on our character,

My Answer is no. It's so hard to humble when I'm perfect in every way.

I'm an extremely sexy man. So wearing a pump doesn't effect my sexiness.

I kinda feel like I'm to dependent on gadgets though.

I thinks it's a frame of mind. Is the water glass half till empty or half full.

Hay I'm doing the best that I can.

I think your all sexy
