Their new site sucks worse than the old one. They added all that video so now pages take longer to load but the info they added is useless. You can't find the basic specs of a pump now.

Sweet!
Comprehensive Memory
Store your last 500 carb and blood glucose values, in addition to your previous 500 boluses, 120 daily totals, 30 alarms, 60 primes, 30 suspends and 270 basal records

This sounds hopeful...

That does look cool. It looks like it could suck the life quickly out of batteries with that screen though.

That does look cool. It looks like it could suck the life quickly out of batteries with that screen though.
Here's what they say on it....
"Extended Battery Life
Uses one AA lithium battery, lasting 5 to 7 weeks, for more convenience (using an alkaline AA battery results in shorter battery life)."
Of course in the IR 1200 and 1250 specs it says 6-8 weeks. Although I get 4-6 months on mine. SO I guess it still have a long battery life.
**** the upgrade isn't cheap unless you purchased in the last 12 months.
The screen looks nice! What else is new, anyone know? And can Cybrog comment now? The website is aim at new pumpers, I couldn't find to much info. I kinda thought they was going to have communication with the ultra coming out but, I guess not.

After much studying, the only new features I see is the color screen, the fact that it memorizes carb intake and bgs too, instead of just insulin, and now carb ratios, ISFs, and targets aren't in set time frames.

The ANimas gets the longest life of all out there. The difference for battery life is....
~Screen lenght on (I think the Animas is the only one that totally shuts off)
~Number of alarms you use for reminders
~Vibrate vs. Audible (vibrate uses more battery)
~Kind of battery (Lithium vs. Alkaline)
~Number of boluses a day
~Amount of basal insulin each day

Looks like the new pump has some good new features.. but I don't have the latest pump anymore :bawling:
but the info they added is useless. You can't find the basic specs of a pump now.
I can't even find where it says the cartridge capacity. Is it true that they increased it to 300 units? The pump looks like it's the same size, and I believe the dimensions are the same.
After all, it just came out today, so most likely they will be changing things on a regular basis for a while...well..hopefully...

I guess they stuck with 200 units. I was always told they would go back to 300 units to try and pick up the pump population they lost when they dropped to 200 units, but they obviously didn't want to try to pick them up again or keep them. :hmmmm2:
Right now from what I see I wouldn't waste 2 cents on that upgrade, if it can even be classified as one.

lol... So I guess the study wasn't all that important to them since they released it before the second phase of the study was complete. :hmmmm2:
It's just the 1250 with a color screen and improved software. I've been wearing it for about 4 months. Wonder if they will let me keep it or upgrade for free since I participated. The battery lasts almost as long as the 1250...

It would be cool to have a better screen, but I'd be out $600 just for that. I'll wait till my next warranty expiration and pick one up then. I've got too many other bills to pay right now. It's really cool for new pumpers though, I'd still get it if I were ready for one now.

I dig the color screen, the better memory & other features, but I just don't think that it's worth that high of a price to upgrade. I think I'd fall into the $399 category or so.
Tony hit the nail on the head when he said the upgrade wasn't cheap. :s:
The one thing that really is attractive to me is the color screen. Brian, myself & several others had mentioned that we'd like to see that in future pumps, so that's cool that they added that. Hopefully other companies will follow suit in that respect.

Did they include any other changes in the software than carb/bg memory? If not, I'm not sure if I can stomach the price for the upgrade. I might even be in the lowest tier, but still, 300 dollars for a new screen and couple tweaks is pretty big. Not sure if I can justify that myself, muchless get it by the Mrs.
To whomever said that new website stinks, they're spot on with that. Not NEARLY enough information..

I called this morning to make sure it uses the same reservoirs - it does. This is a good thing for me, as I just got 5 boxes of them (3 mos. supply).
I'm thinking about upgrading because of two things: BGs and carbs are kept in memory now, and the IC and ISF time ranges are customizable user-settings instead of predefined blocks of time. The color screen is just icing on the cake. ;)
They put my name on a call back list for people interested in upgrading, asked my color preference (silver), and said the upgrades won't ship until early April.

While I agree that it would be a big expense for those of us that all ready have a pump to upgrade just for a few minor changes, why is it a problem at all? when you buy a 2006 car and the 2007s come out they don't offer an upgrade to the previous buyers. Any discount offered is nice of the pump companies as far as I'm concerned. They don't really owe us a free or cheap upgrade. the upgrade is merely a ploy to keep you coming back so that the company(any of them really) can sell the supplies that go a long with the pump.

I might have to partially disagree there. It seems alot on here order supplies from outside vendors besides their pump company. I know that if I switched to another pump company I'd still order all my supplies through Animas. I think Animas has given me great service on supply orders and they sell supplies for all pumps available.
I do agree on them offering an upgrade at all. At the same time though the upgrade shows you how much they mark everything up. If one can upgrade to a new 2020 and get one of the first ones out the pump company obviously isn't taking a $5000 loss on that one. So it shows that the original pump you bought was marked up quite a bit. Not to mention you send your old pump back...so now that new pump cost say $6500.
I think I'll start a thread on supply orders.

I guess I'm fortunate that the 180 units would last me 4 days if I filled the reservoir completely. (I am sorry that there isn't a model with a larger capacity for those who need it.)
As I've only had my pump a little over a year, the upgrade is worth the cost to me, as the new software features are things I have been asking for and I have 3 years to go before the insurance might pay for a new pump. I'm just disappointed that Animas wasn't ready to start shipping upgrades yesterday. ;) So, I'll get the new pump in April, a new Mac laptop (triple-boot to run OSX, Linux and Windows) in May or June and a CGMS later this year (still hoping to compare the Navigator to the Minilink).

I agree, Jedi. I love the fact that Animas offers supplies for all pumps...It's like "One stop shopping" there!
I also agree that it's cool that they offer upgrades, but for me, the price is a bit steep at this time. I don't personally have as much of a need to upgrade, since I don't use the Animas as my primary pump. I've also been spoiled by the free upgrades that Smiths Medical offers.

Yep, I confirmed with an Animas rep this morning that it stores the info. Turns out I was dialing the wrong number, and thats why I got no response. Once I got the number correct (duh) the rep returned my call very quickly.
I am meeting with the cozmo rep tomorrow am and the animas rep tomorrow pm. Now that one can set their own time for ISFs on this new pump I'm heavily leaning towards the 2020.
Does anyone know if you can bolus during a combo/long bolus on the 2020. Like if I went out to eat took a combo bolus, could I do an immediate bolus during that time if say I wanted dessert?

Assuming they didn't change that from the 1200/1250, then yes. You can do a standard bolus anytime, even when a combo bolus is running. The only thing you can't do is two combo boluses on top of each other.

While the pump looks nice, I think I'll probably wait and get a pump with a different form factor or more features. I do really like my 1250 though and the 2020 only looks better. It's kind of weird because Animas told be that the IR1275 would be out a few months after I purchased my 1250, and that was around 2 years ago. Other than a color screen, the 2020 doesn't appear that much different from what the 1275 was supposed to be (from what I can tell).

It's kind of weird because Animas told be that the IR1275 would be out a few months after I purchased my 1250, and that was around 2 years ago.
I was told the same thing, except it was 1 year ago. Perhaps the purchase of Animas by J&J had something to do with the delay.
I think the reason they made it the 2020 was because it is not just a software upgrade. The added extra memory and a color screen. The 1275 was only going to be a software upgrade.
JediSkipdogg

The 1275 was only going to be a software upgrade.
No, the ORIGINAL 1275 that was released to shareholders around August of 2005 was going to be a pump upgrade. It was going to bring back the 300 unit cartridge that made quite a few leave Animas and some people decide not to go with them for a pump choice. The 1275 was then supposed to have been released around January of 2006. Then the 1500 which was suppose to be the micropump/nanopump with Debiotech and was suppose to be out Fall/Winter of 2006. As we can see, neither of those happened after the merger/acquisition took place. And obviously the nanopump won't be the 1500 anymore.

Do you know of any development of a CGMS by J&J or an FDA submission?
Not sure if they already have a FDA submission, but I think they were working with Lifescan to create a CGMS system...From what I've seen & heard, they were/are going to implement a micro needle for the sensor and the calibration time would be within minutes. I don't know what's going on with that, but I initially saw & heard about it at the symposium in September of '06.
I also heard from the Abbott rep. in September of '06 that the Navigator would be out in December '06 (or at the very latest, no later than Spring of '07)....well, those times have come & gone & still no Navigator. I understand that the FDA can be a pain and other issues can crop up along the way, but I also don't think it's right to falsely raise hopes like that. Animas did Not give any release dates, tentative or otherwise, so I think that's good...this way, they don't falsely raise our hopes.

So true, Dewey.
Not only that, but when I spoke with an Animas manager about CGMS, I asked if he would advise I go with one of the current offerings on the market. He said that yes, it would be a good idea to do so.
So, without revealing too much, he basically said it'll be a while on the Lifescan/Animas CGMS. Which is OK, as I know whatever they come out with will probably kick butt.

I think there was some kind of productin shortage. On Tuesday or Wednesday I was told mine would ship either today or sometime next week. My rep says things are going out on Monday. The Animas people processing everything told me production was behind and they are being made and that since I want a black one it will likely be sooner since they are making more black than any color.

This is pure speculation, but it seems like they might have rushed things a little bit and now they're having issues...
I've been trying to get someone out here to hook me up and they seem pretty short staffed. All of their clinicians were out of the area doing training and demos, which I think may be related to the 2020 release. One lady actually asked if I would be willing to drive to HQ to meet with the clinician... I thought that was a little unreasonable.
All I know is that the people I've spoken with seem way more stressed and busy than they did before the release.

I think some think it's the new customer thing because that's what Cozmo did with their previous upgrade. It was a good 2-3 months (maybe even a tad longer) for current users to get upgraded, heck, even at least 1 month before they started upgrading current users. They gave the new pumps to new people (as they generally figure let's at least get them pumping first, whereas current pumpers at least have a pump to use now.)

Ummm, I do hope you hear tomorrow since you seem as eager as I am to get the upgrade, but I don't remember... did you call right after they announced it back in March? That's when I first put my name on the list. Since then, I've confirmed a couple of times that I was still interested and was still on the list.
cheers,
j

I called in March but at that time they just said to keep checking the website. I don't think they took my name down. Either way, I can wait.. the new pump isn't that exciting anyway, but there is nothing better than having new diabetes toys. lol

Yes, I like new toys too. ;) I'm just tired of writing down numbers the old fashioned way. One way or another - either through the 2020, or through the MM CGMS - this summer I am going to be logging with technology.

Animas called me on Wed. to confirm a May 10, 2007 delivery date through the upgrade program. I put my name on the list at the end of March and have not contacted them since. The lady even offered the upgrade at $299 since I had my name in before my first year was up. Now that is service! A little off the target date but, still good honest service.

Just FYI, got a phone call this morning to confirm that my 2020 upgrade (silver) will be shipping out next week for delivery next Wednesday.
cheers,
j
Can you post a picture of it for me when you get it? Pretty pretty please?
It was a tough choice for me, but I went with blue. Sometimes I regret not choosing the silver one...

Sure will, but you do know that they show silver ones too on the Animas 2020 website, right? ;)

Just connected myself to the insulin pump...the Animas 2020 in silver. I would have gone with blue but I just got a new cell phone that's the exact same blue!

I want to see a real picture! :)
Mine is a zillion times prettier in person than on the website, all sparkly blue with the screen lit up. I love it!

I just got back from a trip and the 2020 set off the metal detector both times. Not a very big deal, just a pat down but, I really liked that the 1250 never set off the the MD. Just an FYI for people that are concerned about this.

That could be good. Maybe the made the 2020 out of something more than cheap 2 cent plastic. Personally, I wish my pump was a solid metal, lol. Metal doesn't crack (at least without a great deal of force.)

Odd... I traveled recently with the 2020 and it did not set off the detectors. Are you sure it was the pump?

It seems like on certain days they increase the sensitivity on the metal detectors. I wouldn't say it went off because of the 2020. My 1250 has set off the metal detector occasionally.

I travel a lot and my 1250 sets off the detectors so much that when the rare "clean pass" comes, I tend to argue with TSA about their security :)

That's wierd... I've traveled about a dozen times during the last 16 months and have never set off the detector with either the 1250 or the 2020. I wonder if it has to do with where you wear you pump. :hmmmm:

I don't think so. Because when I flew to Vegas 4 years ago I set off the metal detector in Indianapolis only. I made it through both Las Vegas and Chicago without a metal detector going off and I didn't change where I wore the pump.
I think it has to do with what brand they use and how sensitive they are. Remember, some airports may still have 10 year old metal detectors that only pick up large knifes. While others more modern could pick up a pin.
