I went to the doctor on FRiday... my first appt since my diagnosis on Jan 13th...
I didn't start my meds right away.. but after 3 weeks of not the kind of control I wanted.. and after everyone here helped me with my fears.... I started my meds... have been on Metformin 2 a day 500mg for 6 weeks...
My initial BGL was 225... my A1C was 8.0 ... as of March 16th.. my BGL was 95 and my A1C was 6.7!! I had complained to my doc that I still wasn't getting the control I wanted, so he up'd my meds to 3 a day (500mg).... and so far, my control has been much better... I'm back to intestinal problems but I think after day 3 its starting to subside also...

I feel much better.... I've asked my doctor if I can go on the extended release Metformin.. he said next visit, in 6 weeks, we'll discuss it... I'm hopeful....

thank you everyone for all your help!!
Traci:)

congrats, glad you got over your fear of metformin its really not as bad as some fear lol

for others they just cant tolerate those intestinal problems, or they dont give it a chance to work and let the side affects subside on there own.

I dont have a problem taking meds as long as they work! lol

Great news Traci!! Keep up the good work!! It's good to read that your doc is willing to work with you! Altho I see no reason why he wouldn't/coulnd't switch you to the Metformin ER straight away???? Oh Well, at least he's listening to you!! ;)

very good news. I had intestional probs for almost 5 months, but I hung in there, then I was placed on the long acting since I also was still having too many highs and lows, now with the long acting metformin my numbers are now more consistant, and I have not had a single dawn effect since being on it! and no side effects

Nice job Traci!!

i'm one of those who couldn't stand the intestinal problems, but luckily have been able to keep the BGs down w/out the drugs.

Whatever works is what is right by me!!!

i bet if you had an A1c drawn in a month you'd be even lower.
