I am using comfort shorts, 13mm cannula. Do the regular comfort sets (17 mm cannula) have longer insertion needles too ? (ouch)

I tried a couple of Cleo's but they did not stay on me for even 2 days.

I have 3 month's supply of comfort shorts, but I am starting to shop around for future buys.

I plan to get some samples to try out.

The regular Comforts are 19mm and hurt when I put them in. I used the Cleo's for six months, gave up and started using Comfort Shorts. I contacted Animas and requested some samples of their 9mm and 6mm Insets. My doctor had to send a prescription for the samples. I liked the 6mm so well that next month, I will start ordering them from Animas along with the Cosmo cartridge. They sent me four samples of each so I had a really good trial. They have the same adhesive that the Comforts do since they are made by Unomedical.

I like the Unomedical Insets myself...

Sadly the long comforts worked the best for me. I don't think I ever had a bleeder with them. They seemed to always last the full 3 days with no problems.

The problem was, they hurt terribly trying to put them in. The comfort shorts weren't much better, but they were easier since I lost 6 mm of needle length.

Currently, I'm on the insets. My biggest problem with them is if I hit something and it hurts, I'm done. Wasted Inset. At least with the comforts if I hit something that didn't feel right I could pull it all out and try again. With the insets, I haven't found a way to do that yet, which has caused me to lose probably 10% of them on hitting something bad.

Thanks for the replies! Comfort shorts seem to work fine, I get 3 days out of them. They hurt going in, now I know it's not just me!:vollkomme
I'll try to get inset samples.

What are you hitting?

What are you hitting?

In the past month I've hit two insets dead on blood veins. Both hurt for a second when they went in. Then when I bolused the first time after eating (which generally when I put a new set in I eat something to test it out) the Animas sting hurt worse than anything. I actually thought being shot would have felt better. Then when I removed both sets I had blood come out. The first was a gusher the second was a small stream.

I also do get some occasional sets that result in stinging boluses. As long as the bg stays under control, I leave them in and bite the bullet. It does help to do a 35/65 combo bolus over 6 minutes (0.1 hr) since it breaks the bolus up a bit.

I've also had a few bleeders over the past year, but I can't relate them to the type of infusion set, since I've only ever used the Insets. Personally, I haven't seen a correlation between stinging boluses and bleeders...
