I was dx'ed on 3/3 with an A1c of 10.7. I am taking a diabetic education couse this week and last night they checked our A1c again, and mine came out to a 6.3 :D ! Not perfect, but at least I'm making some progress. It's nice to know when you're busting your hump that it is actually helping.

Been looking over my reports I'm making to take with me and it looks like all of the 90 dayaverages are below 130. Will probably find out next Monday or Tuesday when the results come back in the mail.

Craig,
Considering that the test is a 90-day average and you have only had like 2/3 of that time to work on straightening it out, I would say that your A1c is like crazy good. Hopefully, you are not exeriencing too many lows to get it down that quickly.
Keep up the great work!

I've been trying to loose weight for the last two years but when I was dx'ed that really scared/motivated me to loose weight. So in that light, I do have a few hypos. The worst bg was a 32 or 38, I can't remember which. The worst part was I didn't even know it until I checked my bg. That did scared me a bit. Since then I have reduced my meds a bit. I think my meter indicates that my average is about 95. I usually check two hours after meals and any time I feel low. Without going back and checking actual numbers I would guess that I have a hypo 4 or 5 times a week with a bg in the range of 50 to 70. I have very few hypers although after a wild moment of eating a breakfeast burrito with my son, my bg shot up to a 187. Who would've thunk a tortilla had so many carbs.
On the Tortilla thing; I have given up Mexican food completely. It raises my BG's so high that it is just not worth the work of brining it all back to normal and eat it as well. That was a good food group that I used to enjoy very much. But lately I go way high with this type of food.
Too bad!

Me too w/ the mexican food, however I do still indulge. I usually have to take two doses of H, one before and then another about 2-3 hrs later. Most of the time it works okay and the next day my fasting is 150-180, but sometimes I end up in the 200's.

I've found that my BG spikes more in response to the KIND of carbs I eat than the amount...sorta...:). Take a look at the glycemic index and start sorting food choices out in favor of the lower GI foods and I bet you see an improvement in your numbers.
If I eat a sandwich made out of low carb bread (or a tortilla) it's gauranteed to put me over 200/11.1...but if I eat a can of asparagas and green salad the numbers stay releatively calm. A lot of people equate low carb with no carb...and that just aint true...it's more about the amount and kind of carbs you consume. The body needs carbohydrates...even our meat eating ancestors had access to fruits, nuts, berries, etc. and consumed them whenever they were available. This is doubly important to me as a diebetic because one of the things I have total control over is the fuel I choose to feed the insulin fire in my blood.
Great numbers, Gunner....keep up the awesome work..:)

There is one thing I found out about high GI/GL foods and that is they seem to have an avalanche threshold. Eating a whole sandwich sends me through the roof, but a half sandwich does not. So when I have a Rueban it's half sandwich only. Pizza two slices from a large or three from a medium max. More and It's lights out an hour later. :) The real advantage of a low GI meal for myself comes from being able to absolutly stuff myself.:D
