I`m really new to diabetes and trying to figure out what is my correction unit. So far I think 1 unit of Humalog Lispro helps to lover my BG 50 points. How does yours work?

Hi Daryop! One unit brings me down 3 points (54) but later in the evening, one unit brings me down more - around 3.5 points.

One unit brings me down 18-19 points. 50 points sounds like a lot unless your pancreas is secreting some insulin ........

One unit brings me down about 50 points too, although it does vary (I've had type 1 for 21 years, so no honeymoon). If I'm over 200 or am on a hormonal bender, I develop some insulin resistance, so a unit won't work anywhere near as efficiently. Many people have a temporary insulin resistance associated with dawn phenomenon or anything else, really, so you just have to experiment with stable highs (you can't get a good result if your blood sugar is increasing), test often, and trust your results.

hello daryop, I find it's different to everyone so experrement and see what's right for you. As for me (allthough i should count the carbs) to the amout of short acting that we do to correct the BG's. It's confiusing i know, But there is a carb calculator that will give you a better idea on how much to bolus. I cannot say where is one heh, It's something to look into i suppose. :)

Yeah that's seems to be the statistical standard. Even Bernstein (60+ years of diabetes) is 1:50. I get around 1:40 to 1:65 depending on the time of day.

1:40 for me, unless I've been exercising, in which it goes way up, between 1:70-1:100. (This is for non-regular, intermittent exercise.)

You can measure (http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/howto/bgi.html) or estimate (http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/howto/HOWTO-estimate-BIR.shtml) your ISF or Blood Sugar to Insulin ratio.

Thanks for the links, Cyborg! I was just about to ask how you (safely) go about figuring these things out. Looks like they link to a lot of other good information, too.

Mine is the same, I use one unit of Novolog for every 50 points I want to come down. After 6:00pm I tend to need a little less insulin for some reason. But a 1:50 has been good for the most part. :)
