Can you all give me some examples of what your basals are? I totally realize that it is a very individualized thing, I almost feel like I'm asking for your underwear size, lol. I am just curious as to what other peoples are, to see if mine are somewhere in the ballpark. I am tweaking mine right now because I'm so tired of going low all the time. I currently have 5 basals and they are set at various numbers, no two are the same, but I'm sure thats normal. Thanks all!:)

Mine are 7.47mmol/l over 100 tests and i am a heavy boy at 118Kgs wich is about 170pounds so i would take quite a lot of insulin like 66U of novomix and 44U of lantus and about 26 - 30U of novorapid. if your'e getting lows then i would just graduly take 2U off the long acting and see how you go or even just 1U off the normal dose. It's good that you have a keen interest in you BG's to gain control and stay happy of course.

So... Do I win a prize for having the highest basal rates?

I have a question. How long after beginning the pump, did it take you to figure out these different basal rates? I start on April 2nd. I am going to be at the hospital for most of the day, so says the Dr. Is he going to tweak my basals as we check throughout the day? I have noticed you all have different basals for different times of the day. How long until we have my basal rate figured out? He said I could go back to work the Tuesday after hooking up, and only take the Monday off. Do you think it will effect me?

Cr*p. Seeing these posts make me realize I need to majorly tweak my basals, and I don't really know how. When I first got the pump they just had me on .5 units around the clock. I have recently upped it to .6 units around the clock and that seems to be a lot better.....but I have this feeling that I need to be fine-tuning the basals as they tend to be all over the place sometimes.

I have set 1.30 around the clock. Seems to work for me.

Skip or delay a meal. From a couple of hours after you have eaten, check your bg at least every hour. If the numbers are drifting down, you are getting too much insulin. If up, not enough. You want to get several hours worth of data.

After an adjustment, look at it again the next day to see if it did what you want, namely to keep you at an even keel when you have not eaten. No drift.

Do the same thing for a different period of the day.

It was told by my trainer to start with overnight basel adjustment. Sometimes a couple of day's data helps.

You have to keep at it, small steps, recheck to see if you have achieved stability.

Wow, most people need a least a couple different rates, but if that works for you :dontknow:

Here are mine:

12 am: .8
4 pm: .7
7 pm: .8

Actually, I guess mine aren't that varied either... But, that said, I know that mine could definitely use adjustment.

I have 3 basal rates, but I think I need to do some tweaking because my morning blood sugars have been running in the 50's to mid 70's.

12 am - 2 am .35
2 am - 7 pm .55
7 pm - 12 am .45

.35 all day. So far I don't need to change it except .4 when I take a bath (I know this makes no sense, but there you have it) and .3 if I'm doing a lot of walking.
