I have been reading through some of the past posts, and found that they order I did things was way different. I actually contacted Minimed first. Just to get some info on the pump. I filled out all of their paperwork that day, just to get it started if I made the choice. They then contacted Liberty Medical, who called me with my co-pay amount and supply coverage. I then went to my Dr. and requested the pump. He said okay, and turned in a referral to my Insurance company. I then called Libety Medical and told them my Dr. had written the insurance company, and that was all I was waiting for. They went ahead and sent me the forms for them, and I filled them out and faxed them in. The same day as my Dr.s referral. Three days later my insurance company approved me, and I called Liberty back and gave them the approval number. They told me this past Friday, that they were putting the pump in the mail, and it should be here by Monday. Does that seem right? I have read that it took about a week for everyone else to get theirs. Mine would only end up being in the mail, UPS, for three days. I made my appt. with my educator for Wednesday night just to be on the safe side, but am worried now that the pump may not be here in time, if it was ordered on Friday. I tried to call Liberty, and they are closed on the weekends, so I emailed them. Does anyone have any knowledge about Liberty Medical??

My pump shipped Friday from Deltec and will be at my house Wednesday. I think delivery time depends on two things: who is shipping your pump and your distance from the shipper. I would generally take their word as to arrival, after all you'll need to be home to sign for it. If in doubt you can always call and request the tracking information for it.
Good luck pumping, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Hey Jen. There's no "official" order as to how we go about getting the pump. Usually your doctor or endo starts the paperwork for you. You just jumped ahead a bit by contacting everyone on your own. The main point being..... you're getting a pump! YEAH!
Mini Med contacted me on a Monday evening to let me know the pump was being shipped out, delivered on Wednesday and that a signature was required at the time of delivery. They also gave me a Federal Express tracking number.

Hi Jen, I think it is different for everyone. I went to a doctor and she sent me to a endo with a history of being pump positive. The second time I got my pump, I just contacted MiniMed and they got the ball rolling for me. So, the order doesn't matter. I am glad your pump is in the mail and you will enjoy the benefits of pumping!

I'd call and get the ups tracking number. Then you'd know.:)

Thank you all for replying. I guess the girl I spoke to at Liberty was a tad on the slow side, because my pump will actually not be here until tomorrow. But it is coming, and I have all the info to track it now. I will let you all know what happens on Wednesday when I have my meeting with my educator, and hook up some saline. :)

hey Jen...........you've been a type 1 for 20 years so you have plenty of experience with insulin. Is it necessary for you to start pumping with saline first, rather than starting right away with Novolog or Humalog?
I ask this because I only did shots for 2 years before switching to the pump. My pump trainer (also a type 1 pumper) felt it wasn't necessary for me to start on saline.

I guess my Dr. says that everyone he has started on the pump, pumped with Saline first. He said it would only be for three or four days. It also may have to do with me getting a comfort for the pump, I am living alone since my husband deployed and I guess knowing exactly what I am doing would help out. I am not really sure as to why, but he has never had one start pumping without doing it. Believe me, if I could just start on the thing, I would. My Doc is very pro-pump, which is good. Over half of his Diabetes patients are currently on the pump. I sort of wondered the same thing, but I figure, what the heck, it can't hurt right? :D
