Is it normal for a non-diabetic to have a blood sugar rating of 145 a half hour after drinking a redbull on an empty somach?
thanks for your time,
Steve

I would say it's possible; everyones bg goes up after eating, and if anything is going to push it to its worst it would be red bull....

I'd say it's pretty unlikey that if that reading is accurate, you don't at least have pre-diabetes. However, home glucometers can have up to a 20% margin of error (though most don't), so it's possible that it was really like a 120, which would be much more reasonable.

Looked up the nutritional values on Red BUll, 8.30 oz can
28 carbs
27 gms sugar
My doctor advised me that I should aim for non-diabetic numbers at all times, thus reducing the risks of complications. I was told my goal for 2 hrs after eating (2 hrs after first bite) was 140 or less.
If you are worried about diabetes, I would suggest you check your levels over a period of a few days. Do a fasting blood sugar, check your levels before a meal, then 2 hrs after a meal. If your #'s are consistently higher than normal, this would suggest that something is amiss and you should see your doctor. A Hgb A1C test (gives a 90 day blood sugar average) is also something that might indicated pre-diabetes or diabetes.
At any rate, I wouldn't let the results of one test determine anything.

Yes. 145 isn't high, Red Bull is full of sugar, and half an hour isn't long enough for a full insulin response. Perfectly normal.

Ah, I read it as an hour and a half.
