Well, this is my 3rd inset where I've gotten stinging boluses. I can't but help wonder if the reports about Animas having stinging boluses could be more of an issue the the inset. My cozmo arrives today, I was hoping to order my supplies from animas and get insets. My disetronic has a fast bolus, and I don't get the stinging anywhere near this often (almost every bolus). I hope it's an issue of the set and the pump and with a slower cozmo bolus I would be able to still use the inset.

Anyway, does anyone else get stinging boluses with the inset? If so what pump do you use?

I get stinging boluses with my Minimed pump and 6mm Quicksets, another 90 degree cannula set. It's generally right after I've inserted a new set, and it's not painful, just annoying. If anything, I like that they sting because it tells me that the set is in properly. I get nervous if it doesn't sting a little.

With a prescription from your doctor, you can still get your Insets from Animas. I have a Cosmo but quit ordering from Smith-Medical. I will place my first order next month with Animas for the 6mm Inset. You don't have to buy your supplies from Smith-Medical. They send 3 month supplies so you have time to get it set up with Animas for your next shipment.

I am on an Animas 1250 and currently use the 6mm insets. I would say I get a stinger every other day or so. This depends on a number of factors, such as size of bolus, where the infusion set is, etc. I have not found a way to fix this issue other than rotating my sites often.

I like using an extended bolus. When possible, I've been doing 1/2 hour boluses starting 1/2 hour before I eat. I find it stops any stinging and it also helps control the post meal spike in bg.

I never thought of that, cyborg.
good call.

I usually get stingers if it's 5 units or more.

What's your bolus delivery time? Mine in 3 min, and I never get a stinger. The most I take at once is 10 units though, absolute max.

I'm on the Animas and started feeling the sting. Slowed the delivery from normal to slow and it stopped. But I never need to bolus over 3 units at a time so maybe that helps. Sometimes on my third day, if the site is a bit sore, I will feel it.
