I dont post alot here but I am with an issue that I am looking for some opinions on.

Went camping for the weekend and had a family members dog take off on me while I was walking him which led to be being plumetted to the concrete and ending up with road rash, some areas are at least 3 skin layers deep (ouch). My sister-law being an RN cleaned it up bandaged it, till I got home to go to an urgent care. Thinking they would clean it give me a tetanus shot(havent had a recent one), and possible antibotics in case of infection.

The Doc even though I informed them my concern was with the healing of these wounds from being a type 1,didn't even want to give me a shot,as her belief it was for dirty metals?

But everything I research says otherwise so I am glad I opted for it. As for cleaning it they just dumped some sodium chloride on it, put a bandaid over it and I was on my way.

When I asked about keeping it covered ar letting it scab over it was basically what ever you want to do?

My issue is is that I am not sure whether I shoul let it dry out or if I should keep it moist, some reasearch says moist will help it heal faster.

Has anybody experienced injuries like this, and just looking for some opinions.

Thx in advance

I can't speak for everyone, but if/when I get a deep cut, I clean it with peroxide & dress it with Neosporin & gauze/tape. I check & change it daily. When I feel it's scabbed over, I'll let it air heal. Ironically, I have an abundance of platelets, so scabbing/healing has never really been an issue for me.

I say better to play it safe & keep it cleaned out & dressed, than to let it remain exposed to air & possible bacteria.
