I'm just curious about what happens to other people when they go low. Do you get mean and nasty and viscious when you go low? I don't, I just sit down quietly and hang on for dear life. Do you get mean?

My husband says I get more gripy when I'm high (blood sugar wise, of course:T ). When i've had the few lows i've had, I've just felt shaky, anxious and hungry, not angry.

I don't think I get mean, just confused. I sometimes have trouble telling others what is wrong with me. The worst thing, I have had a sort of seizure, with my body shaking and jerking.

According to my wife, I get very "Cranky." That's one of her signs that I need to check my B/G.
When I go very high, above 170/9.4, I just get very tired and have to sleep.

Come to think of it, I do get angry when I'm high. And sleepy, very, very, sleepy.

WHY DO YOU ASK?!!!!!! :D
Just kidding....actually, sometimes I do get a little grumpy when I go low....it's kind of funky, though, as I get a little grumpy sometimes, and some other times I get a little goofy according to my wife.

Yeh! Whats it to ya???
I used to get "short" with my husband when I was low. Now I also get quiet. I also refuse to eat things which drives people NUTS! I hate this, don't want that or I just test, see that I am low (sometimes even say I am low) and then go on about my business. Someone needs to remind me that I should possibly do something about that "low blood sugar" issue.
What can I say? I have never been accused of being smart.

LOL Nancy, I've done that before too, when I'm low I'll think, I'm low, and then go on about my business like it didn't even matter that I'm low. A little while later it dawned on me, "I'm LOW!":)

Last week, I woke after sleeping 3 hours. I didn't feel like I could stand up, so slid out of bed to my knees. I knew something was wrong, but I crawled into this room, where I keep meds and tester. I know it was on my mind that it was weird that I was crawling, but for the life of me couldn't think why I was doing it. I got in here and sitting on the floor, tried to think what it was I needed. My husband was up in the living room watching a DVD, and just followed my progress in amazement, until it dawned on him that something was wrong. He asked me what I needed and I had no idea, but he got the tester out and I was 43. He handed me a couple of glucose tablets and I felt fine in just a few minutes, but was still low. I don't think I would have figured out what was going on, so was lucky Hubby was around.
I think I would rather be mean than confused.

You are very lucky, Penny... glad you got through that.
When I'm low, I get dizzy, shaky, wobbly... I usually don't get testy until someone starts asking me questions, as I seem to need all my concentration to get around it.
The wife will attest to this... most nights at dinner if I'm hypo... the family will all be eating, and I'll still be stumbling around, getting my test going and making my salad. If one of the kids jumps in front of me or asks for something from the fridge, I get a bit agitated... It's one of the few times when I really wish this disease was over and I have no need to deal with it anymore.
On the same token, I also feel my diabetes is being blamed for feelings that are unrelated to it. You can't be in a bad mood without someone saying "you better eat something" or "someone hasn't had their insulin" and so on.

I don't get mean, but I try really hard to be rational because I find that I can't deal with anything when I'm low...like people talking to me, or even talking in the same room. I just can't process it all and it gets to be too much really fast. I find that I get irritable really fast when low, though.

Prior to the onset of diabetes, I would get low on occasion from extended lack of food and/or more sustained exertion than I was used to. In these situations, I became extremely irritable and cranky.
Since being dxed a month ago, my hypo reactions have generally been confined to sweaty and shaky hands, while going high seems to make me even more sensitive to light than I normally am.
Like cheryl said, I think the different reactions are probably due to slow vs. fast drops in blood sugar, but I can't confirm that because I haven't had an "irritable" hypo since dx.
I definitely get grouchy and irritable when I'm low, but not truly angry. The other reliable symptom for me is having to concentrate really hard on what I'm doing, be it grocery shopping, writing or talking, etc., which in turn makes me grouchy.
Now if only I started feel grumpy at 70 instead of 50....

I do. I feel intense shame about how I used to be mean to Brandy when my blood sugar was low. I don't know why, I was very much aware of it and would try to stay away from her but for some reason I would sometimes go look for her and scream at her. She used to turn away from me when I was in insulin shock, she wouldn't even look at me, as if she thought that would protect her. I've always felt intense guilt about it because whatever fueled my rage was not her fault but I'd take it out on her any way simply because she was available.

Not since I was a kid. I just don't allow myself to get that low (please God help me keep that true). I might be paying a steep price on keeping my sugars a lil elevated to help compensate for that, but the thought of being out of control like that is truely frightning to me.

I've been known to cry at the drop of a hat when low. I tend to get more emotional when low and if you knew me, that may be hard to believe lol
The worst is when I'm going low and don't know what is going on, I blame this on the brain not being at full capacity to function. I've checked bs and gone yeah, 34, not good, and just continue on with whatever it was I was doing. Then check again, say 5 mins later, and go 32, hmmm, maybe I should eat something but continue on with business. This usually happens at work which is never good...but no, for the most part, not angry (altho there's one ex-bf who might argue this - lol)

I don't usually get 'angry', but aggitated and/or irritated for sure (ok, ok, b*tchy)! Especially when I can't get the stupid strip into the meter, or the drop of blood into the strip or trying to get the dammed gluco tabs tube open! UGH! In those situations I start to become frantic. I have great difficulty concentrating and processing my thoughts. I get really shakey, and at first feel really hot and sweaty, then get the cold sweats. eW (I HATE to sweat! LOL) I'm usually by myself when I go low, so don't really have anyone but the dog to take any anger (IF I have any) out on! LOL But I haven't noticed anger as yet, when gone low.

I def get irritable when I get low. My husband gets so upset. There have been times I have gotten to the point where I am so low, all I do is laugh at him when I am low. He one time asked me if I was drunk, in the middle of the day, while we were still dating. (I do not drink) But yes, I can be one mean B**ch when my sugar is low. lol.

A few years back, I'd go WAAAAY low while I was sleeping. I don't remember a thing, but my boyfriend at the time said I was horribly mean, would literally run away from the sugar he was trying to give me. Now I catch lows really early (the one nice thing I still have control of lately). I just feel spacey, hungry and impatient.

when I'm low, I'm completely immobile. I first of all get shaky, and if I don't act fast enough, I lose my sight. I'm told this happens because during a bad low, blood is cut off to the brain. Have had many operations, but none touch how bad I feel when I am low. Does everyone test before they start to drive a car? Did you know that you could be guilty of "Vehicular Manslaughter" if you got into a bad accident and someone died. It is considered by law that getting behind the wheel when you sugar is low is like driving under the influence of alcohol. I've heard of people losing their licence because of their lows even though they weren't in an accident, but just pulled off the road. I think the best way to skip having lows is to always be prepared. That to me is to test often and never be without something containing sugar with an arm's length. If you've never had a low of, say 3 Cdn. or 60 U.S. I say 'lucky you' keep up the good work. I will say that having a pump has cut my lows and highs to a bare minimum!

No meanness, but I have refused help.
I tend to fall into a very strong pulsing sunsation, kind of a surging within my brain. There are no words to describe it. It does cause me to pace back and forth very intently, sometimes crashing into furniture or people as I flow with it and try to escape it. I now recognize what's happenning; though I'm pretty much incapable of helping myself. I had an episode last evening which pulled me out of my nap. I was quite aware of what was happenning, and I was telling myself to ride it out. I remember walking from the bed and through our bathroom and back several times. I even laid spread eagle on the bed trying to shake it. I prolly emerged 5 minutes later quite aware and went for the juice.
Glad I only have these minor ones now;)

I have been very good lately about checking my blood sugar before I drive. I have been low when driving before, and it's very dangerous, and a horrible feeling too.

I do get irritable when I am low and inclined to be snappy when o/h asks questions which I think,
at that time, are silly questions.
That makes me even more mad and he will say - "Time you saw your doctor again!"
Why?
He doesn't seem to realise that mostly what I need is somrthing to eat.
Although I have been T2 for 12 years he still thinks the less I eat the better and is
astonished if I eat a bit of choc or cake. :banghead:

I'm mean and grumpy all the time. :D  :girl****:
Seriously, I think it's when I'm high that I'm the worst. I have horrible bad dreams, I'm tense and terse, I snap "Yes" or "No" as answers to questions, and the like.
When I'm low, I just fall over and go to sleep.

I can get very mean and I will have no patience for anything. Other times I get really spacey and my attention level tends to drift. Of course there are the times when I'm deeply engrossed in something and don't notice I'm low until I begin shaking terribly. I also notice that I can't speak, I stutter terribly and can't think of what I want to say.
