It is a very great idea however the way it works is full of faults. The #1 problem is that it always needs to make contact with the skin. And I know from wearing a watch, that my watch rotates slightly around my arm because I don't like it super tight.

The other problem is some people had reactions to the sensors in the way of a rash forming. It would then leave a red mark where the sensor was.

Lastly, the sensors only last 13 hours and are pretty costly. They are sold in cartons of 16 for $120 each carton. That comes out to $7.50 per sensor or almost $15 a day. That's even more than the CGMS devices by Minimed and Dexcom. If you change the sensor every 13 hours on the dot, they would run you $5,055 in a year.

This got me thinking? Why aren't the CGM companies working on putting their receivers in watch form, like the Glucowatch? Equipment still too big to go on the wrist? It would be great to have the Dexcom receiver smaller, but also wearable for people who don't pump.

Anyone have an idea?

I'm not very keen on the watch idea. I personally do not want everyone around me to 1) know I have diabetes 2) know my BG every second.

I think the glucowatch has real benefits as a device for doctors. Have a patient that is getting weird readings.. send them home with a gluccowatch for a week to see the patterns, then the patient can return it. It would certainly be easier than CGM of the Dexcome type since there really is no training needed to learn to wear a watch. But as a personal device, it just doesn't seem practical, especially with the cost.

My guess would be mainly because of size. The biggest problem right now would be the display size. If you only had a watch face to show info on it would be hard to show a 3, 6, 12, 24 hour graph on.
