Insurance Coverage for CGMS Systems.

What are you finding insurance coverage like for the CGM systems and sensors? Have you been denied? Was it verbal, or written? If they were covered, how did you do it? Did you buy the system, then submit a claim, or wait?

I also am curious to know if you were denied, was the denial verbal or written? Does the denial agree with your interpretation of the policy contract? How did you conclude that you weren't covered?

I'm working on mine now, so will let you know how it goes...I got a little confused, lol. Last night, I received the letter of medical necessity from my endocrinologist. I was a little down 'cause I thought he was going to send the prescription to me as well (to forward on to MiniMed), and when I opened the mail, it wasn't there. Then, I got an e-mail from my local MiniMed rep. this morning, stating that the company has received my prescription & they're going ahead & ordering/sending me the Guardian system. Talk about confused, LOL! :s: I guess now I need to forward the letter of medical necessity on to my insurance company (& pray!). I will say that the both times hubby spoke with ins., they said they'd cover up to x amount, providing they receive a letter of medical necessity and the prescription is written for DME (which is what the Guardian system, transmitter & sensors are).

I just called my insurance to see if it would be covered. In most states it is not. I live in WA state, where it's mandated that diabetic supplies are to be covered as long as it's medically necessary. So, I would just need to get a SMN from my endo and CGMS would be covered at my DME rate.

I couldn't figure out which to check off in the poll, so I didn't respond there...

I did not know that. Was this a recent move on the part of our legislature? Good news if it will work and there is no angle to get out of it.
I will see my Endo 4/25. I have the Minimed forms in hand now. Hope to get to the next step in treatment sooner than later.
