View Full Version : Renewing Driving Licence
Hey Everyone.
I know it's been a long time since I've posted or replied or anything.
I suppose that since my D I've gotten "better" and haven't really required being here again til now.
It's soon going to be driving licence renewal time and one question on the form is: Have you ever suffered from ... Diabetes... etc..
If you say yes to that question, what happens next?
I mean what does the ministry do with that information?
Can they take away your licence for having Diabetes?
My last two A1Cs were both 5.3
My Metformin was cut in half, I now take 1000 mgs a day v/s the 2000 I started with.
Any suggestions? solutions? answers? advice? anything!
Thanks one and all!

In 31 years, including three in Ontario, I've had zero issues, even when I lost vision in one eye for a few months.

I'd brush up on the driveing law, As for me i haven't driven in 14 months now and about to have a test done to show that i do have the ability to drive safely and that is to happen in may.

A quick check on google turned up Diabetes and Driving (http://www.diabetes.ca/section_advocacy/diabetes_driving.asp). (Note that the page is on the diabetes.ca site and is specific to Canada.)
It looks like you don't have much to worry about unless you're prone to severe hypos or have complications which would prevent you from driving safely.

In Manitoba, I'm just required to have a form filled out by my doctor basically saying that my control is good and that there isn't any reason for me not to be licensed. Initially I had to get this done every year or two, but now I think it's just every 5 years. I imagine Ontario would be similar.
Thank you for your replies!
As always I feel much better after having this forum to bounce on and off of. :)
That web site did provide answers to all of my questions.
Best wishes to all!

I never, ever check the 'diabetes' box for anything unless it is at an HMO, or like. Checking that box can prevent you from doing a lot of things. Though I would never, ever reccomend others to do this.

I renewed my license last August. There were NO medical questions to answer except for asking if you wanted to be an organ donor. That was it! Nothing about medical conditions, violations, etc.

I've never had any medical questions either in Kansas. Just the organ donor thing. Good luck!

New Hampshire doesn't ask either, in fact now you just go and take a picture and get the license renewed, no forms
