Heyup--I'm a Yank, but I'm also a rabid Anglophile who formerly ate Hobnobs like there was no tomorrow. :D

I have some friends in Market Rasen and Leeds and in the UK in general, and I'll be visiting next year when I'm feeling a bit better! :wavey:

Just noticed someone asked me a question about a year ago but I never returned to the thread:

Seanmarr where abouts in Scotland are you?

I wouldn't actually have understood the reason for the question up until about two years ago when I did some research into my name. 'Marr' is generally a Scottish surname named after an administrative area in Scotland, but in my case I actually have an Irish heritage (I am actually 100% Irish blood as both my parents are decended from Irish immigrants. Either my dads dad or grandfather migrated here with the surname Mayer or Meyer, but got fed up with the locals mispronouncing it (this would have been in East London or West Essex) and so changed it to Marr so people would pronounce it properly!!

Theres a story to my first and second names as well, which are Sean Benjamin. Originally when I was born I was going to be called Benjamin, but unfortunatly the cat was already named Ben so my mum thought it would caiuse confusion, and then my parents decided to go for an Irish first name instead. Incidently, my brothers name is Patrick (an Irish name as well).

So, I am not in Scotland or have any relation to that freezing country either!! I'm now a Rochford boy (just to the North of Southend-on-sea down in Essex!

Heather this is such a great thread and makes fascinating reading - I was surprised to see how long it had been going.
Don't be fooled by my location in the top right. I started off in the UK - born in N. Ireland (mixed parentage N.Irish/English), then went to England for uni, married an Englishman - came to the States for a year yet somehow we are still here! Our sons are one fourth N. Irish, three fourths English and totally American - it is an interesting mixture :)

Sorry for crashing the party, never been there but I have cousins I am trying to find. Last year a couple of people offered but then another relative thought they knew and was searching. They dropped the ball and I would really like to tell my cousins that their estranged father has passed away.
I tried the friends network and the phone book and even calling house that were near where they lived.
If anyone has knowledge of resources I can tap, I'd appreciate it.
I have some old addresses and names but nothing recent

Thanks for reading

Pm me the details and I'll see if I can help. I'm heavily into genealogy and am always researching some part of the UK or other. I won't make any promises but will certainly give it a go.
