Hi everyone! It has been a long time since I have visited the forums... but after two recent A1C jumps, yesterday being 7.0 :-(... I thought it was time to start buckling down again.

Although I have been type 1 for 20 years, and on the pump for 8, I think I have become a little too complacent and lost track of what it means to really take care of my diabetes.

I really want to get back into counting my carbs tighter and making better, well thought out decisions, about boluses. Any recomendations for books, resources, etc. that may help get be back on track to effective carb counting??

I appreciate anything anyone has to share!

Food File Online - Count the calories in your food (http://www.foodfileonline.com/index.htm)

I like this food count site

and 'Think like a Pancreas' by Gary Sheinsomething

I think an excellent book is The Calorie King...Amazon.com: The Calorie King Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter 2007: Books: Allan Borushek (http://www.amazon.com/Calorie-King-Carbohydrate-Counter-2007/dp/1930448139)

They also have a website that you can look info up on as well. The book is a pocket size (well, large pocket) so it's easy to take with you.

As the previous poster mentioned, Calorie King is a great resource. I also use dietfacts.com...this website takes all the national restaurant chain menus and breaks down the nutritional value, including carbs...takes the stress out of eating out that way...also, they have an area where you can look up foods by brands as well.

For carb counting book, I use Calorie King. But for websites, I use Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program (http://www.calorie-count.com).

Also, this is not specifically for carb counting, but a book I really got a lot out of when I was first diagnosed was Amazon.com: Think Like a Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin: Books: Gary Scheiner,Barry Goldstein (http://www.amazon.com/Think-Like-Pancreas-Practical-Managing/dp/1569244367/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5885280-8047134?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177434589&sr=8-1). When I read it, I remember thinking that it would be a good book to go back and re-read if I ever felt like I needed a refresher.
