Wow! You know, I used to hate the San Fernando Valley, but I really love it now. van Nuys and I have a great little love affair, for example. :) You couldn't get me to live in Agoura or Thousand Oaks or Westlake Village or Calabasas if you paid me!
I see your link to Valley Fever. I got here in 1996, 2 years after the N'ridge quake, and I think I should get tested.

Yep, was actually diagnosed the DAY of the Northridge earthquake! Jan 17, 1994!! and guess where my labs were done? At a lab in NORTHRIDGE!!! I woke up that morning and saw the news on the TV about the earthquake and nearly fainted ... then proceeded to call the doc and ask if my test results were in yet, or did they get messed up and did I have to do it all over again!!! YikeS! They were in, had just came in that morning infact!! Positive! :(
So yea, I've lived with this incureable **** disease for 13 years now. Really 14, we're pretty sure (after being dx'd) thatI had it at least a year before, as that's when I began getting really sick. I got it while I lived in Coalinga for 2 years (Fresno County, San Joaquin Valley) Jan 1992 - Apr 1994.
Though it's possible to get it down south, it's more common in the San Joaquin Valley. But it doesn't hurt to get checked. Especially if you find that you get colds and chest infections often, and they're terrible to get rid of!
The *common cold* lasts me about a month! Often longer because it turns into bronchitis and pneumonia alot! :( That's what made the doc check me for it, I had bronchitis, which turned into pneumonia, and it wouldn't go away for ANYTHING!! Three different anti-biotics, what seemed like gallons of prescription cough meds later ... and nothing, no improvement! I also had walking pneumonia about 8 months prior that was a b*tch to get rid of (about 4 months!!), and also I'd been having a LOT of fatigue, fevers and rashes (those are other signs)!
Luckily I don't have the disseminated form, that's some NASTY stuff there!! My little spores only live in my lungs, and wake up and wreak havoc with me when I guess they have nothing better to do! ;)
And there's nothing really they can do about it, other than for me to take an anti-fungal like Diflucan. But i'd have to take it for the rest of my life, and well, I've managed this long with out it, I think, for the time being at least, I can still live without it! I think it works best for those with disseminated VF. Another thing, back here, it's rare for anyone to even have heard of it!! So IIII would have to educate them all on it! I just haven't felt like going thru it all! Nothing they can do, so why waste my breath, yanno! Oh well!
BTW, after we left L.A. we moved up north to Paso Robles, so I was still in Cali, and lived in Cali until June '98, been here in Metro Atlanta ever since.
