We have a fabulous new project up and running locally: a nutritional SMS info service.

It's very simple: you send an SMS with the text Nutri_name of foodstuff, and basic nutritional info per 100g of product is sent to your mobile.

Example: Nutri_strawberry. You immediately receive an sms with the following text: Strawberry CRB 11.4g FAT 0.4g CAL 48 PRO 1.0g.

I have no idea if this kind of service is available in other countries, but my good friend and president of our Diabetic Association has been working very hard to make this happen here.

Considering our diabetes care leaves a lot to be desired, with only a few hundred people on the pump, insurance covering 50 strips a month for Type 1s, and an overwhelming lack of diabetes awareness overall, this is a huge step in the right direction, not only for diabetics, but I also for people with various dietary restrictions, overweight people or simply those who like to watch what they eat.

I am very proud and happy, wanted to share. :)

What a great idea! It would certainly make eating out easier....or harder, as we'd have no need to guess about the values of our foods, so no excuses for messing up;) . I would love to have access to something like that.

Now if they could just make a cell phone with a built in scale!

June that is such a great idea!

I don't think we have anything like that here. My phone has internet so I could look that info up on a website, but a text would be so much easier and less expensive!
