I am sure everybody does...noone wants any illnesses, but I am just so frusterated because I have been so sick for about ten month and in that time I have had DKA four times. I usually have no warning for it. It is getting to the point where it developes in about four hours. No matter what I do to stop it I cant, and for 23 I really feel like I spending too much time in the cardiac ICU, and for the last year I have had my A1c under 7.0. For the last for months it has remained at 6.0. I will go into DKA is my blood sugar is 180.
I have lyme disease, gastroparesis, gastritis, I usually have a fever every day. I vomit all the time. I have huge thyoid problems (it is three times the normal size). Stupid goiter!!! I am getting it taken out next week. I am in the hospital about once a month. I just got out and I was there for two weeks. I also have neuropathy in my feet, and my muscle and joints are always in pain. My rheumatiod factor is postive, so they think I might be developing arthritis.
And they (all of my six doctors) have no idea why any of this is happening. I just want to throw in the towel. Every doctors appointment is more bad news.
I have diabetes, so you would think that would be enough. Has anyone else had problems like these??? Are they all diabetes related? And why am I having these issues when I take care of myself??

Are you getting the correct basal insulin? Usually going into DKA that low means there is a problem with your basal. Are you on Lantus, pump or what?

I am on an insulin pump with humalog and my endo sees me all the time (every few weeks). He says everything is right with my treatment. They have no idea why I am going into it so much, or why it is happening so quick.

love2sing,
I can totally relate. While I don't have the same issues as you, and nothing near as severe, I am not a healthy person either. It can be really frustrating, especially since no one else seems to understand what it's like. Hang it there. I'm rooting for you! Please feel free to talk on here or PM me if you need to talk.

Can you up your testing to every 2 hours and then do correction boluses as needed? To avoid insulin stacking, you'll need a way to determine your IOB if you are not on a pump.

Hi there. Wow, you sure have been going
through some ****. Sorry to hear it. I hate
diseases too. Although I don't have all the
one's that you have, I do have: Diabetes
(Type 1), Asthma, Hypothyroidism(supposedly
in remission) and I sure know the unbelieveable
pain and fatigue of RA(Rheumatoid Arthritis),
and a couple other ailments. I had fleeting
symptoms of it when I was 24 and was dxd.
at age 25. IMO RA is the worst of them.
Well, your immune system sucks and hereditary
"hand me downs" are 2 good reasons why you have
some of these diseases. Another reason could be
environmental, etc., triggers, bringing them out.
I have been on a new expensive drug since Dec./06.
(thank God Hubby's company pays for our drugs 100%)
We've found again that this drug is just not working
for me(bad habit of mine). So I had to go for more
tests and I was given a TB shot to trigger a TB
reaction(the drug I was on makes you easily able
to get TB)to see if I had been exposed to TB. I
also had to have a chest x-ray. This is all so I will
be able to try another even more expensive drug
next week that can cause Lumphoma(sp) and a
bunch of other Fun things. I'm also on Prednisone
(since Mar/06. and Indomethacin(for 19 yrs.). I've
been on so many drugs for RA that I feel like a chemical
dumping ground. Oh well, that's Life, eh? It could
be worse. ;) Sorry, too much info. I guess.
I do hope that you do not have RA but if you do, I
hope that it's the mild one. I have the severe one
(of course). ;) There are a few others on this Forum
that have RA also.
It's still Great to have your sugars in control, as you
know. That's important for your overall health anyways.
Going into DKA in 4 hrs. is certainly ridiculous. I went
into DKA and then a Coma when I was 19 within 50 hours.
I forgot to take my morning shots and ate at Mc's and had
3 large pop during the day(forgot my Insulin since I had to
catch the bus to work ). I was Soooo thirsty. I figured it
was the HOT weather. Aww, to be young, invincible and
just plain Stupid again. :D
Best wishes to Ya, that they get everything figured out
and that things will not be any worst for Ya. ((Hugs))
You're in my thoughts and prayers. Keep your chin up.:flowers:
(Sorry about the novel. :) )
