Blood taken last Wednesday. Saw doctor this morning, he asked me to take a guess. I said, "5.9%." He said, "Close" and I wondered momentarily if I had repeated the 5.8 of last time. "6.0."
I'm happy with that. My meter averages were slightly lower than last time before the 5.8 result, but I've also been trying to have fewer hypos and reduce the standard deviation of my readings. So I think that 6.0 might be a bit tidier than the 5.8.

Nice job! If you hover around 6 and tighten up the std dev, I think you've got a great plan. What is your std dev btw, just curious?

I'll have to check that when I get on my home computer. I'm not anal-retentive enough to keep constant tabs on all the calculations, that's just my impression of what I've been trying to do and general improved understanding of my carb ratios at differing times of the day.
But as we all probably know, intuition can be good but it's best served and checked by checking the cold hard facts. So my intuitive sense about that could be wrong, and if I'm wrong, then I have reason to explore what's going on.
Still, I'm happy with it. I maintained good numbers during my tibial fracture being healed and the struggle to stay active.

Jen, my standard deviation was 52, the same as the prior HbA1c period. Heh. Guess it shows that I should maybe take some time to more closely examine some of these things.
The one area that's tough for me as an MDI is the overnight period. I have to elevate my glucose level before bed to give me buffer until 3 AM or so. Even so, every now and then my basal metabolism goes into weird sort of on/off cycles and what works for a couple of weeks has to get re-evaluated and revised. Ugh. Almost perfect control would be a lot easier if we didn't have to sleep, eh?

Yeah, that's similar to me. A std dev in the 50s is the lowest I've been able to get so far, and it's my main focus now (besides eeking down my A1c just a bit). I still say a std dev of 52 is good... it's true though, MDI can make the small alterations a wee bit more difficult. But maybe your intuition over the past few months is correct and it's just not reflected in your actual numbers. That's what I tell myself anyway.
So you can't drop your Lantus dose to prevent your overnight drop? That's what I'm struggling with these days. If I drop mine back by even 1 unit, I go high when I don't want to. :T I'm thinking a bedtime snack might just have to be the best compromise in the MDI world.
