For some reason I find it harder to talk when my blood sugar is low. Does anyone else have this problem? Just wondering.:(

absolutely!
Not hard to form the words, but hard to think straight to say things that make sense.

I don't go low much. In fact hardly ever. But what I do experience is sudden drops. My pancreas likes to play tricks on me... Anyway. I did experience having problems talking. I was told I sounded a bit tipsy. But I do find everything being ery slowwwww in my brain.

Find it hard? Boy, now that's an understatement (http://www.talkingwav.com/homer/homer_06.wav).

Before I became hypo-unaware I would slur my words so saying things like "i need sugar" came out like "eeeeeyeynneeeettthurgggrrrrr" yeah good times. Then I got to the point that I could speak clearly but what I said made no sense. So instead of "I need sugar" I'd just say things like. "um, I. um pop, um pop juice". ;) So to answer your question. Yes, totally!

In a word YES!!! I can't think or talk. It is so frustrating because I am usually trying to hide the fact that I am low. It becomes evident very quickly. I hate trying to make sense when I am low.....am I making any sense?

Sure do. And isn't that when every chucklehead and his brother wants to play 20 questions?
Talk? No. Make sense? Yes. Mich

Talk? No. Make sense? Yes. MichLOL Ditto what he said. :D Everything in my brain makes perfect sense but it comes out backwards and very very fast, usually in a very distressed-sounding, shaking, high-pitched voice. It makes no sense to anyone but people around me know what I need when this happens.
this is when i go quiet and eat my tabs! other wise, i cant make any sense even though it makes perfect sense in my head..
My husband oftne picks on me because of this!!!

Yes, like other have said I slur my words, it's hard to even get them out and what I do manage to say makes no sense. I tend to repeat words or sentences a lot.

No doubt. Ever try to explain to someone what is involved in a bunion surgery when all you can think about is "I think I'm low"? You know what is going on but it feels like you are in a tunnel. LOL Beth

I don't think I've ever had trouble with the actual vocalization, but some of my more severe lows I have had what others have described, a sensation like the thoughts are stuck and you keep repeating the same short sometimes nonsensical phrase over and over.
Maybe it's because the brain is so starved for glucose the brain cells don't have enough energy to generate a chain of thoughts?

I tell people that whenever I start to make sense or sound like I know what I'm talking about that they should warn me because it means my blood sugar is low.

Ditto to everything everyone said-they're all a b----! I hate being low-there's also some statistic somewhere about the brain cell loss with LBS'.

Lucky for me . . . I don't need a brain.
YES! Then I get so frustrated because I can't speak and be understood that I start to cry.

Yes me with slurred speach, coordination, not able to think straight almost just like being drunk.
I will get violent at times and combative.
Will get real moody on the way down.

I can't even tell any body what's wrong when mine drops on me. At work I used to have a big problem with that when I was using Novolog 70/30 and was waiting on a customer and would have to stay at the counter . Now I keep Sweeties in my pocket and people think I am just sneaking a piece of candy and I don't give them my life history.

Yes. It is very much like having a little too much to drink. You think you are fine, but can tell things aren't coming out right. Also I feel some numbness around the mouth. It is a miserable feeling.

Well I wasn't sure if it was normal but I guess now it is a pretty common thing considering the replies. Just sometimes I can't tell what should be a common symptom or if I should be concerned about other problems. Waiting on customers when a low happens is like ****!

It just feels like too much work to talk for me and if someone don't understand and gets annoyed with me then I will get annoyed back.

Talking, thinking, and focussing become more difficult when i'm hypoglycemic. I'll sometimes start to stutter and miss or skip words... not very fun, it makes people laugh though, I've actually had to tell people that i'm having a low and that i'm not retarded lol... jk

Yes Tricia I usually can't even read my meter when I am low. My vision is like coming in from outside on a sunny day to a dark room. I can't see nuttin. Sometimes I also get numb lips and tongue, sort of like novicaine wearing off. It sticks around for awhile after my blood sugar goes back to normal.

I have no problem talking when low. In fact, I seem to talk more.
I just have a problem with making sense sometimes. I can't get the right words in my addled brain.

That's EXACTLY what it's like for me! Just too much work to talk! And I sure can't think straight, but I keep on talking, which isn't good! The people that know me well recognize a low coming on at the same time I do -- they say I get a "glassy-eyed" look, or a "deer-in-the-headlights" look.

I know EXACTLY what you guys mean! My brain just runs out of fuel and it gets so hard to talk that I don't bother.
My nighttime hypos usually go something like this:
wake up 2 am shaking, head pounding, drenched in cold sweat.
stumble downstairs, walking into a few walls/pets/pieces of furniture along the way. loud noises start waking everyone up.
stand in front of refrigerator for 5 minutes before taking the milk out. make cereal. eat cereal. half of the milk/cereal is now on the floor.
someone comes in turns on light. grunt. they ask "hey are you okay? are you low" another grunt.
In the morning I deny being loud/grumpy/non-communicative. And I can explain in perfect detail what happened.

haha, oh yea!! And the few times that I have had siezures from lows my speech was...well, childish and not understandable. Quite entertaining for those close by....once they knew I was ok that is.
