hi, i have a underactive thyroid. only have found out recently. i had some blood tests for regular check ups on diabetes and hey were also checking for thyroid and a week later i went to the doctors for my results and they said it was fine, i went back to the doctors for an infection in my knee and they said we will send u for a blood test and then the doctors looked at my notes and said "oh you have a under active thyroid then?" i said im not aware of that and they said yes you have and now im on levothyroxine. ....im not sure if this is the same thing tho lol

I just posted about this in another thread...

I have Hashimoto's disease. I was diagnosed 8 years ago (I was only 17). I didn't gain any weight. I just felt tired and sluggish all the time; then an endo realized my thyroid was enlarged and ran the tests. I've been on synthroid since then.

Having cold hands and feet/low body temp is a symptom of underactive thyroid. Weight loss and lowered insulin requirements are not as far as I know. In fact, having an underactive thyroid can make it VERY difficult to lose weight.

Could it be that you need less insulin because you lost weight? :dontknow:

Sounds like you have a mix of the two very different thyroid issues - hypo and hyper. The coldness is hypo-related, the weight loss is hyper-related.

Since most hypothyroid folks tend to have trouble losing weight, I'd hazard a guess that hypothyroidism isn't your problem. The cold hands/feet could just be you. I am freezing cold all the time too. There's nothing wrong with me, it's just... me. <shrug> Do you have good circulation? And I would imagine that, like somebody already mentioned, your decreased insulin is likely due to your weight loss. Which begs the question, are you purposely trying to lose weight, or does it just happen?

I had a bout with Graves' Disease a few years ago (hyperthyroidism) but it went into remission. At the time, I was eating a TON but not gaining any weight. I do not remember any significant weight loss, tho. Do you have any other obvious signs or symptoms?

There are many things that your weight loss and coldness could indicate... but they could also mean absolutely nothing!

If you're concerned, have your thyroid function checked; it is easy to have done if you get a blood draw. And if the weight loss isn't planned, or it's sudden, or a significant amount, definitely let your doc know.

many Type 1s also have thyroid issues. I am also hypo and take levoxyl, for about the past 8-9 years. My dose just increased again. I was gaining weight before I was diagnosed but I know there were other issues I had contributing to that, so not sure how much of it was thyroid related.

I was so not trying to loose any weight, I went from a size 11 or 9ish to a straight size 5, went from 137 pounds to a whoopin 121, last week, been too afraid to check it this week.....actually last year I was just below the number whatever that meant, and I do have a enlarged goiter, well it is not that big, but the doc said i have one.....no noticeable though, but I am hot natured I hate heat, no i am freezing all the time, i dunno, what is going on I was 137 pounds March 28th, and let me see 3 weeks later I was 126 and then a week or two after that 121, I dunno, what to think anymore.....I just want to make sure it is not any kind of thyroid issue's I have bouncy bouncy blood sugars, now I know i just started pumping but one day I am struggling being quite elevated and the next low city, vice versa, I have not been able to have a perfect day period and that sucks......I maybe be overreacting but still, I just want to make sure, since it was a little below the line last year.....whatever that means, I should of asked but last year, I was bad bad diabetic, and didnt really know or care about that kind of thing then.....

I understand...been cold all the time for about three years, after being hot-natured my whole life. I've got a goiter, too. The endo ran all the thyroid tests last summer and everthing was normal....You'll have to just see what the results are.
