I have been diabetic at least 10 years on pills then was put on insulin. Got played around with from one to another type. So for a year I have been on Lantus and Apidra. I noticed injection site itching but I read about some one else one here at that time who was complaining of the same thing but I didn't do any thing. Thought it was just nerve endings from shots. Later the itching got worse and then with every shot I began wheezing.

Now DR. has taken me off every thing for over a week and it has been a blast NOT! with over 300 Blood sugar readings.

Now he put me on Levemir and is finally referring me to and endo. He said he is being careful. OKay good and glad for us both cause I want to be around to grow real old:cool:

So the Levemir is a sample of a flex pen he gave me to try.

I have never used a flex pen always vials of insulin. No one told me that when I got it to refrigerate it . Yet on the sample box it says to keep it cool well it's pretty warm here and I am wondering if some one could just tell me if it has to be refrigerated or can I keep it where it is room temperature?

So have I ruined the insulin in the pen by not refrigerating it? Or can I simply keep it at room temp? :dontknow:

Insulins can be kept at room temp reliably for a month, but if you're going to keep them longer you'll need to refrigerate. Make sure insulin is out of direct sun and not exposed to very warm temps...... when insulin goes bad it just stops working. And if you're allergic to Apidra, try Humalog or Novolog.

I don't use pens, so might be wrong on this .............but does it not say do NOT refrigerate the pen that is in use?
unused vials to be kept in the fridge?
