hi all!last nite i wanted a pb and j.got out the bread[which i rarely eat]-looked at the carbs so i could write 'em down.realized my measuring tablespoon was dirty-too lazy to wash it...:D so i figure a soup spoon would have to do.i just snapped-i suddenly didn't care about measuring, about counting carbs!so i got out a knife and SLATHERED on the pb and j.like 4-5 tbs of EACH...i swear-it was the best pb and j i've ever eaten!reality kicks in and i'm like "oh sh**-what did i do"2 hrs.later-i was at 154[i was told to follow ada guides of 180 and under]but- ihad fun and felt "normal" for the 1st time since dx in jan.hopefully-i won't "snap" very often:D trish

Hee Hee Trish! Breaking the rules ONCE IN A WHILE is fine!! I actually think it's a good thing, (for psycological reasons) BUT no more than say once or twice a month, and I don't mean sit down and eat a whole freakin cake either! LOL A PEICE of cake, A doughnut, A candybar ... whatever, but a NORMAL serving size!! ;)

Just so ya know, pb&j's aren't "off limits" really. The bread and jelly are the "devils" in this equation, but there is one way around it. Sugar Free Jellies and Jams!! I buy smuckers and Kroger Brand. (Kroger of course cheaper, and tastes JUST as good!!) THey only have 5g carbs per Tbsp. *HUGE SMILE*

Now a normal serving of PB shouldn't hurt ya too much if at all as it's only about 5g carbs, but yea, I like my PB thick too! *giggles* THe bread .... well ... that just depends upon what brand you buy! I personally buy Natures Own Honey Wheat ... 11g carbs per slice, so a pb&j for me is about 32g ... now I'm not a "fanatic" about "proper measurements" and up until last fall, I'd sometimes have this for lunch, and not go much above 150, if even 140.

Of course then my body snapped and all of a sudden had a huge distain for bread, and would shoot my BGL thru the roof anytime I ate ANY bread! UGH ... That's somewhat solved now with insulin.

But anyways.... Glad you enjoyed your "treat"! :)

I have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch at work sometimes.... the only thing is, i cannot find Apple Jelly that is low sugar or sugar free! grrr

I like apple better than strawberry or grape..... and i hate preserves...

so I just make sure my serving size is exactly what it says on the label and for the most part im right on when it comes to calories and carbs.

I have never been a big PB n J sandwich eater, but lately its good and wholesome plus the fact that I just cant stand to eat a heavy meal at 3 am even if that is my work schedule lol

so PBnJ sandwich and applesauce is delicous lol

I'll have a PB & J sandwich at least once a week. I use light wheat bread, regular peanut butter, and Smucker's sugar-free strawberry jam. What I miss the most is PB & Marshmallow Fluff sandwiches!

Sweetcheeks...........look for Walden Farms brand in your local grocery store or check out their web site. Their products are wonderful. They have an apple butter......not sure if it's the same as the apple jelly you're talking about.

Heck, last week I spent six days aboard amtrak as well as in Seattle. I sort of through caution to the wind and ate pretty much what I wanted. I did only check a few times to see what was going on which is probably a no no... The few readings as off peak times were fairly reasonable considering what I had eaten.. Now I am home and for the past four or five days have been back on my low carb and sugar diet.. At first I felt a bit guilty, but as you say, what the heck, you only go on a trip like that seldom.

I still have an issue with naps, which I hate to give up after lunch. But the difference between a good reading and a worse one is laying down for any significant time. If I only nap for 15 minutes then move about my 2 hour reading will come in pretty well. This morning I had a pretty good sized bowl of bran flakes, half a banana, some berries and then several pieces of a chocolate covered apple I bought on the trip. Only 110 at two hours, I was a bit surprised.. Obviously I am at the beginning stages rather than in one that eating like that would cause huge numbers. I am taking my Salacia Oblonga faithfully though, I can say for sure that for me it reduces my glucose levels compared to not taking it.

I actually had pb sandwich for supper just last night, and it was good, with an ice cold glass of milk. I was having and insulin reaction and it was supper time, and that was easiest and fastest for me to fix.

It's been a very stressful couple weeks in the blacklight household, with both my wife and I overwhelmed... not a lot of cooking going on... I fell off the wagon and had Chef Boyardee for dinner... mmmm, chef... no salad, no veggies, just me and a cold can. 64 grams of carbs, way too much salt.

Well, room temp... it's an old comfort food for me, dear!

BTW, my numbers were just fine after that... even had a hypo at lunch today. Go figure, I thought i'd be crazy high.

I'm glad you could have the pasta without problems to your blood sugar....i've just never heard of anyone having it cold...but that's how we have Pork-N-Beans down south, too, straight from the can, nothing like 'em.

Larry, are you saying that naps raise your BGs? I love to take naps because I'm tired all the time.

I take my naps prior to my before-dinner readings, and my BGs have been higher before dinner. Is this because of the naps? Please advise; I'm still so new at this! Thanks!

Yeah, I am an anomaly... I'm beginning to wonder after 8 years if I'm even a diabetic at all, or 'patient zero' of some new, previously unknown disease with similar characteristics!

I do cardio, and I go high. I do anaerobic, and I hypo...

Cold beans? Boo! Cold Chef Boyardee spaghetti and (dog food flavored) meatballs? Hooray! :D :D :D

My sister is "weird" like this too Mike! She can eat rice till the cows come home, she'll eat mashed potatoes, she'll eat cake, and pie .... and her BG stays good!! Now home made mac and cheese, that sends her BG thru the roof!! She's just weird like that! LOL

Hey Stacey, I THOUGHT I'd seen SF Apple Jelly at the store the other week, so I searched online for SF Apple Jelly and didn't find anything (guess I was wrong :(), but I did find a recipe to make some for yourself!! Might be an option for ya! It doesn't look too hard either, nor expensive! Have a look: How to Make Apple Jelly - Easily! (http://www.pickyourown.org/applejelly.htm)
