I have to admit that I'm not overly pleased with the latest A1C, even if my endo is happy...:frown:
6.3
Last time, it was 5.8....This time, I had been experiencing more highs & fewer lows, due to some changes. That said, wasn't as pleased as the endo....I just don't get why in the he** a doctor thinks I should be in the 6s, when I was doing quite well in the 5s! :(

Sorry to hear that your A1C went up. I know you will get it back down where you want it.
My next one is at the end of June. Fingers crossed for a number below 7.

Please don't get me wrong...I'm not "knocking" a 6.3, but I'm just saying that to have been able to achieve that "goal," I don't feel as healthy. For me, being in 5s seems to work well and I don't run high all the time, either. While I may experience more lows from time to time, I'm not running higher than usual (like 150-300 on some days) all day like I have been with the 6.3. Likewise, I have gained weight thanks to needing more insulin. How is any of that beneficial? I just don't get why my endo thinks 6 is where I belong.

Aw Dew, I'm sorry...
at the same time though, I'd kill for a 6.3...

awwwwwwwwww Dew!! *hugz* I too think it's a great number, and actually what I'm shooting for on my next A1c coming up on May 31 (hopefully better than that, but I'll be more than pleased if that's what it is), but I understand how you feel! Heck, I get bummed if my BGL goes over 140! I KNOW it's not the end of the world LOL, but it does bum me a little! ;) Hang in there, I'll know you'll get your 5.8 back, and then some!
I know how you feel Dewey... my last one was up though still very good...it's still mithering me though, weeks later....that's just another delightful side effect of this disease....
When I think it will be higher it is lower and vice versa..I have no idea why your endo would be so pleased either, except he had perhaps been worrying that your lower A1c was a result of a few too many hypo's.... a conclusion that I thnk a lot of docs jump to when they see a <6 result.
remember it's just a number and a short term number at that...5.8 and 6.3 are not that different esp if you factor in inaccuracy possible in lab tests..
keep smiling

Wow, 6.3! But I understand how you feel, and agree that there could be some lab inaccuracy going on as well.
Do you think your endo wants you to be in the 6's? I think considering what endos see on a daily basis, it's very difficult for them to understand how there could possibly be such a major difference between 5.8 and 6.3 in terms of the way we feel overall.
But I'm sure you'll nail a 5 next time!

I'm sorry that you are not happy with your A1C dewey. :( *HUGZ* It's hard i know and so to change to a better lifestyle or bust maybe your thinking now.
Dewey, Please don't punish yourself so have somthing that you like for instance a milkshake. :T
Anyway dewey, I have had a look in the Photo Galery (http://www.diabetesforums.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=732&c=4)and saw you in a shop with that smile that should belong to holywood. :)
You hard-@ss, you. My last one was 7.1, and the doc (my PCP, he ran the A1c after I saw him for my recent gastric issues) was ecstatic! Praising my efforts, telling me to keep it up, telling me he wished all his diabetics patients would have such results...imagine what he'd say to you?

I'm sorry your A1C increased. http://bestsmileys.com/sad/5.gif
I sort of understand. I was 'lucky enough' to be diagnosed with a normal A1C (only 5.5!) and I'd rather like to keep it that way.
So when my last A1C came back at 6.6 was initially surprised but later quite annoyed.

I know how disappointed you're feeling. I'm trying to get mine back down between 6.0 and 6.3 myself. Two years ago (before pumping) I was down to 5.8.
Hang in there Dewey!

It's an awesome number Dewey, not just because mine's the same. And I do have the exact feelings you do. I want under 6 so badly.
Some perspective. I was chatting with pharmacist Bob the other night. His eyes lit right up when I told him mine. His said most of his pumpers are in the teens, a couple at 13 & 14, and he's trying to get a support group going. I told him I'd be there whenever. He wanted to know if I ever tried basal testing. He was shocked to know that not only do I basal test, but I also am doing some advanced techniques like super-bolusing because of the detailed testing I've done. I asked if he was concerned whether I was buying too many strips, and he said no way.
Just consider it a slump. You're still a 300+ hitter!

You made me blush, hehe. :D I may go ahead & have that milkshake after all....and, I'm still looking forward to someday getting down that way & meeting you, Katie & many more friends in Australia (& perhaps we can share that scotch you suggested a while back). (((((Hugs))))) to you, too! :handkiss:
You hard-@ss, you. ... :D
LOL - I know I'm a hard-@ss (hehe), just very particular about it (don't like using other words to describe it as I have a mind that's way too dirty, lol). I guess the biggest fear is that down the road, potential damage or danger may occur if my body doesn't do well with A1Cs in the 6s. Because what works for some doesn't work for others, a 6.3 may be great for some folks, while potentially detrimental to others. I also psychoanalyze the he** out of stuff, as I wonder what kind of things could occur if a trend (whether upward or linear) were to continue.

Thanks, John! :) You're right, we do a lot of things to try & keep our health in check, and that's of utmost importance. Thank you for the perspective. I definitely needed a different point of view, as I may be looking at things wrong or a little too harshly.

Dewey, sorry your A1c isn't where you want it to be. Good that it's in the 6s though, and I think that you'll get it back down soon! :) Oh, but wait...there's a Vegas trip in the middle of your next A1c time frame! Drat, that'll be no fun!!!

I guess what's most frustrating (and what ultimately led to the elevated A1C) are the higher sugar levels I've been experiencing lately. Take this afternoon for example:
3:30pm - 262 took bolus and rechecked:
3:47pm - 306
3:52pm - 314 Obviously, something wasn't working, so moved set (just changed it yesterday):
4:15pm - 343 Took a shot amount & changed entire set (tubing, etc.):
4:30pm - 325
It's now coming back down, and as many can see, when I run high, I check the he** out of my levels. These high numbers are precisely why I get frustrated & concerned. Must be the week before "Aunt Flo," or something is out of whack.

Dewey, I understand your frustration. I last had a 6.1 and I really worked hard to get it under 6.0...so I was bummed. I really understand where you are coming from. At the same time, at least you hit under the diabetic target.
