I had a craving for oatmeal last night for supper, at 5:30 ish, but I know this sends me high early. I planned on watching the hockey game (and looking for Aaron) and having a snack 3 or 4 hours later, so I tried something new. I took took extra bolus to cover the high and planned on snacking to catch the tailing end of the Humalog (6.5 hr duration). I've been tracking my insulin duration so I felt confident; this was a practical test. 1/2 hr after eating I was 11.5 up from 6, so I added a couple more units thinking I'd have an extra beer later.

So 2 hrs later I start feeling sick, and sicker, and sicker. I felt like puking and had nasty diarrhrea and a headache. Joy. I certainly wasn't in any shape for nachos and beer. I know that this condition can elevate BGs, so I wasn't really worried. Another two hours pass and I'm feeling a little better but still pretty ill, and I finally decide to test. 2.8! grrr. I down a juice and go to 4.8. I manage to finish out the game and head to bed. Back down to 4.2. I have some toffees I've been carrying around in my bag for awhile and eat them. I set a 2hr alarm for 12:30am. I get up with the alarm and don't feel too bad, and I'm 5.2. Bolus is definately all gone. Back to bed. This morning I'm 14.6. WTH?

So, even fairly simple plans can go astray.

Dunno why the spike later in the morning. I would have expected one by 12:30 when I tested. **** liver.

Sorry you had such a rough night John.
I know this doesn't help but think of it as a learning experience.:)

I know how you feel, John, I had a bad night myself.

One thing we can all agree on with this disease.........it's NEVER consistant! LOL Hope today is a better day for you.

Ugh sorry about the rough night. I had one too last night. Had to stay up until 4:30am so that I could premedicate myself for my CT with contrast today... Lovely prednisone, woke up at 10am at 157! Did eat a thing after 11pm last night. :(

Man, today sucked too but for different reasons. They fed us cinnamon bun food at work when I was already high, so I again over-bolused for THOSE! Bad John :D I've been fighting hypos all afternoon. Will I ever learn? I think it runs in the family ;)

For what it's worth,

When I'm in a situation where I KNOW I'm not gonna have control of food and carbs, I plan for running a little high 135/7.5---150/8.3 and then bolusing to bring me down since (speaking stickly for myself) I'd rather be a little high out in public than be too low.

I especially take this tact when gone away from home for several days of meetings since I don't want to be "The Diabetic" that everyone has to keep an eye on. And yeah, everyone within the organization I work for knows I'm with Diabetes.

But, since I've done such a good job of never having hypos in company situations, most of the people I work have sorta "forgotten" that I'm of the Diabetic persuasion.
