So I was at the boardwalk at around lunchtime today with my friends, kind of hungover, so I only ate one piece of pizza. When I go to get my pen ready, I notice that no insulin came out when I wanted to get the air out of the needle. So I try again and nothing comes out. I tried 3 units to see if the pen was working, and nothing came out. Pen was half empty, but no insulin came out. WTF???

Another weird thing was...3 hours later, not eating anything else, my bs was 75. I had to wait because Im 3 hours from the boardwalk so I had to wait to get home. What the **** happened?

the good bg was probably due to the alcohol left over in your system... it seems to have a delayed hypo effect... which worked in your favour, this time!!!

As for the humapen.. I had two which did that. The plunger broke, and simply wasn't ejecting any insulin. Call Lily, and tell them what happened, they SHOULD replace your pen free of charge.

I guess the alcohol did work this time. Im not that worried about the pen, I have plenty.

Beware of alcohol for controlling BG's, alcohol can make or break you! It can make your bg soar to comatic status, and can turn around, put you in hypo and kill you when you pass out.
I once relied on alcohol to bring my bg down and control my blood sugar (don't ask)... Pfff, Never again!

I've heard that:canabis: helps to lower BG, but you have to be careful. Check your BG, don't drive, don't overeat, don't get arrested...

When I've had this happen to me (no "shoot" from the pen), it has always been because of a bad pen TIP. Replace it and try again - you'll probably see a big fountain from the earlier attempts.

Just another reason I carry extra tips around.

Sometimes they crush over sideways, sometimes they are just blocked. It's annoying.

I had the glass surrounding the insulin break-didn't notice it until day 2 1/2....WOW were the BS's high  I called NovoNordisk...and they replaced the cartridge (I think:hmmmm: ).

i've been using the HumaPen Ergo for about 11 years now

i got the replacement cartridge holder when they updated that part

then the other day i found out that you are supposed to REPLACE the HumaPen every 3 years........... guess i'm about due for a replacement, eh???

I had numerous problems with the Humalog pens and the insulin itself.
Moved onto the disposable pens a few years ago and never looked back.
