Looks like Hershey's is coming out with some diabetic friendly treats. Some are low carb without a lot of sugar alcohols (http://www.hersheys.com/carbalternatives/home.asp) and others are practically carb free (http://www.hersheys.com/1gcarb/index1.html)... :dancing2:

Well, here I am being a spoil sport again:tomato: . I only researched the The Kit Kat Carb Alternative candy: For a 39g serving, there are 24g of carbs, or 61.5% carb. A regular KitKat of 43g serving size is 28g of carbs, or 63% carb. Not a significant difference.
I suspect similar results for the others.
Now, the other line (1g sugar low carb bars). I like dark chocolate, so that's the one I looked up:
31g serving has 17g CHO, or 54% carbs. A regular Hershey's Special Dark: 41g serving has 25g carbs, or 60% carbs. Better, but no grand prize in the "I can eat this" sweepstakes.
Stick with the real stuff.
BTW, IMO, these kinds of products are dangerous. You see newly diagnosed diabetics (and even not-so-newly...) read the big label, and scarf these things up thinking that they are okay to eat.

I agree that sticking with the real stuff is the way to go, but keep in mind that we're not the target audience for these. "To see how the great HERSHEY'S and REESE'S taste goes with your selected plan, just click on your diet below.", with the options Atkins, South Beach Diet, Sugar Busters, and Weight Watchers. (HERSHEY'S 1g SUGAR CARB bar (http://www.hersheys.com/1gcarb/index1.html) and click "on a diet?" on the left) That's who they're aiming for and I suppose these products may be great for those groups.
Sure, some diabetics may have the reaction you described, but that's a problem with those diabetics not being sufficiently educated, not with this or any other product that's marketing itself to the latest diet fad. If they were selling this as a diabetic food, that would be a different matter, but I can't find a single mention of diabetes on either site.

I saw the nutrition info for the lower carb ones (first link) that have a mix of sugar & sugar alcohols but can't find nutrition/ingredients for the 1g carb bars. Is there a direct link? All I saw was that they have 6g fiber from inulin. These sound more like the Eat Well, Be Well bars I've bought. They have a mix of sweeteners, including Splenda, and they contain inulin but have no sugar alcohols. I love them and can eat a bar without worrying about a bolus and without any gastric side effects. The best things about the EWBW products is that they also make chocolate chips!
Unfortunately they still have all of the fat just like real chocolate, but at least the calories are reduced so they're not quite as evil. I still prefer real chocolate, though. I have a small handful of the chips when I need a chocolate fix or if I'm baking.

I haven't seen them. I'll see if they are available on the net.
I came across another low carb snack (http://www.kozyshack.com/byrequest.html), pudding...

I've tried the tapioca and rice puddings from Kozy Shack and liked them both. They're higher calorie than Jello's sugar free pudding snacks, but the Kozy Shack list of ingredients is much, much shorter and is all stuff that I recognize. I bought a bunch of the 60 calorie sugar free Jello pudding cups when they were on sale and was horrified when I got home and saw the ingredients.

I will gladly do it if I find them.
I don't mean to be a spoil sport either but I am constantly frustrated by the marketing of these products...I feel that they are deceptive. I've given up trying to explain to people why I avoid these so-called "lo-carb" products.
Here at work I just try to keep my mouth shut because they are so nice at food functions. They always provide me with "sugar-free" ice cream, etc. and I don't want to sound ungrateful (I'd rather just eat the real thing).

I generally stick with the real stuff after I read the labels and see there is not a big difference. I have found from Freshleys ( I think I spelled it right and you find it at Walmart) a rendition of my favorite Little Debbie snack cake (peanut butter wafer cookie covered in choc) made with splenda. It has 17 carbs ( I think if not less) and is quite tasty.
