Now you can get an Ultra Mini in the classic silver- or in pink, green, or black. They look pretty darn cool!

Great, colours now, and we still can't get it here in Canada.
After I watched the commercial though, it doesn't look THAT small. Look at it next to the hand of the woman...

It's supposed to come out next month, but no doubt they will only be silver.

I took some survey I found on a thread here re: freebies for diabetics. They're supposed to be sending me one in the mail! This will probably be my back-up meter...I giggled when I saw how small it is (compared to other square-ish meters). It also looks like a giant pregnancy test kit! **or is that just my childish 7th grade brain??**

I just got the basic silver one in the mail today. I want a green one!!
It's bigger than I thought it would be but I find it's still better for just sticking in a coat pocket. I took it with me when I went for my walk after lunch today and used it twice. I wish it was downloadable, though.

yes 150 i think... its a good meter.... but its basic, it cannot connect to the computer for readings, or do the before/after meals type stuff.

How well does it carry in a pocket?
I'm thinking one of these small meters would be a good item for when I'm doing races. Right now my options are either carry my meter with me in a hand or tuck it away in my car if the parking is close enough to the start and finish lines. If it would just sit lightly enough in a pocket on my running shorts, this would be a good idea to have.

LOL...I've thought that, too! :D
Does it have a memory?
Yes, it has a 50 test memory, with time & date stamp.

LOL Cin. ;) I like Both the green & pink, but the pink seems a little brighter (or something). I'm really glad they finally started making them in colors! :D

It's kind of long but thin. It weighs a lot less than the UltraSmart, my normal meter. You'd still have to carry test strips and the lanecet device (or just a lancet and do a manual jab) so there's still quite a bit of bulk to fit in a pocket.
Also, as I found out today, the meter turns on very easily with even just light pressure on the button. I had it in the case in my desk drawer and when I unzipped the case, the meter was on. I took it with me for my walk after lunch and put it in my little pouch, and it was on when I took it out to test.

I stopped at a pharmacy yesterday after work, and decided to shell out the 20 bucks for one. Tried it out for carrying along with me on a run this morning, and it was perfect for carrying in the pocket without it feeling like there was something bulky or heavy banging against my thigh.
The one annoying bit was the clicking of strips in the test tube. But I think the next time I go out, I'll see about putting a bit of tissue in the tube, and seeing if that'll mute them.
This seems like it should be a good solution for carrying a glucose meter when I'm doing runs.

There are spray paints on the market now designed for plastic. Pick up a can or 2 of your favorite colors, some masking tape and an exacto knife and go to town. You could also buy some contact paper but I don't think it will last

I got the pink one!!!!
I had my endo appointment this morning, and the nurse was using a pink one. I was all 'oooh you have the new pink one' and she gave me one! How sweet.
It is the exact same shade as my phone too (moto razr).

I wouldn't mind getting a black one. I'll probably get one when they are free via mail order.

Wow, I just saw one for the first time in person, and I was shocked. It's as large as a shark. I mean, for the word MINI, it's huge. It's as big, in volume, as the UltraSmart. It's dimensions are different, but the same essential volume. It's longer and rounder, rather than square and thin, but I thought it was going to rival the freestyle mini, which really is mini in size.
Anywho, for those interested, the Freestyle Mini is to be launched in Canada in two weeks as I was told today at the conference.

Yep, I got one free and it's just as big as the others, just longer and less wide. I don't see much point in them personally, but to each their own.
