I have been considering going on an insulin pump. I have visited many websites and have a question for the pumpers. Does anyone use the animas IR 1200 or the deltec cozmo? I have been researching both of these pumps and was wondering what everyones thoughts were. If you know of anymore sites to research, let me know.
Thanks!!!!!!:)

Hi There,

I am on the Deltec Cozmo and am very pleased with it. As far as personalization goes, it is the best. Users can name basal profiles, and it is the only pump currently that allows for emergency contact info to be customized (only when the "auto-off" feature is enabled).

There are some decent websites that give good detail and show good pump comparisons. One is:

Diabetes Mall (http://www.diabetesnet.com/diabetes_technology/insulin_pump_models.php)

Another good website is:

children With Diabetes (http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/pumps/index.htm)

Both sites provide great information about the current models available.

While I haven't used the Animas IR-1200, I hear great things about it. It has (one of) the longest battery life on the market, and many good features. Since choosing a pump is determined by user preferences, it would be difficult to tell you which company to go with. I will say that both companies are reputable, have really good customer service and reliable products.
Animas offers a 90 day trial period, which is a big help (I'm not sure if Deltec does, but it never hurts to ask). Sometimes, doctors will try to influence a patient's decision about which company to go with. I cannot stress enough that it is your choice, and asking questions along with researching is the best way to help make your decision. Many factors will go into finding the right pump for you. A simple guideline that can be used when researching includes:

1. What type of infusion sets can be used? (Luer lock or Proprietary)
2. How is the customer service (quick to return calls. etc.)?
3. What types of features does the pump have?
4. Does the company offer interest free payment plans (in the event you owe money)?
5. Will the company contact your insurance company (if applicable) on your behalf? (both Animas and Deltec do)
6. Can you obtain a backup pump for travel or vacations?
7. Are issues resolved in a timely manner?
8. Is the pump waterproof? (though I personally do not trust electrical equipment in the water, both the Animas and Deltec are IPX8 compliant)

I hope this info. is helpful, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me: toloache51@msn.com :)

Hi there,
I am currently on the animas IR1200, and love it.
I looked at all three before I got the animas, and it was basically a toss up between animas and deltec as to which to get, as they are so similar. For me it came down to looks, I liked the look and styling of the IR1200, better than cosmo. The user interface is very simple, and push button bolusing is a piece of cake without even looking.
Emergency contact info is already programmed into the animas, just not yet ready for use. But the pump is also fully upgradeable.
The reps at animas are very courteous and have always gotten right back to me if they were busy when I called.

Good luck.

Gettingby,

My husband has been on the Animas IR 1200 for not quite 2 weeks so can't really speak with tons of experience, but I can tell you Jack loves his pump. It takes all the guesswork out of how much insulin to take. He plugs in his total carbs and the pump checks how much insulin is still in his system and calculates the correct dosage. There is also a feature called EzBg where you put in what your bg reading is, what you want it to be, and tells you how much to take based on those figures.

So far our experience has been great. Jack has never had better control.....ever. He swims with it and takes it in the shower. He is farsighted so the big screen is great too.

The service so far has been great. We took a class that was very informative and the CDE came to our house and set us up. Our pump included 6 months worth of every supply you can think of and a CD that we can play anytime for a refresher course.

They handle the insurance too. I faxed one sheet of paper to Animas and 9 days later we had the pump in our hands! There was about $900 our insurance didn't cover and they are letting us make interest free payments.

So....we think the Animas is great......but it is our first pump and we are new to it.

Diane
