Welcome Noogsy,
It ain't so bad. Really. Glad you made it here. You'll get more out of this place than out of a Golf Club full of doctors. Most of us realize before very long that what we are actually doing is living healthy and vibrant lives, and the people here are all experts. Not that there aren't bumps in the road...

Welcome Noogsy! Glad you found us. Lots of great information to be found here and friendly folks as well. Hang in there...things will get better and you'll feel so much better as your blood sugar gets under control. Others have mentioned that the blurry vision improves as your levels do as well.
It would be great if you could get a monitor and test your blood sugar regularly...if you test 2 hrs after the start of your meals (at least for awhile), you'll better know how certain foods affect you and you'll soon learn what to avoid and what to eat regularly. I'd advise you to limit your breads, potatoes, rice, pastas a good bit.
You're not alone...look around, ask questions, you'll learn a lot in a short time....I know I did!
Again, Welcome!
Linda

Welcome noogsy. You were handed "a pile of poo" but you have come to the right place for information.
Trish is correct. Get a blood sugar monitor and start monitoring your blood sugar first thing in the morning, before meals and two hours after meals. This will give you a good idea of what you can eat and what your body can't tolerate. As your blood sugar comes down to a normal level, your eyes will improve and your mood will also.
It isn't all so bad. You will be forced to get healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. That isn't so bad!
Welcome to the forums.

Don't worry, you'll be fine! Let us know what's up when you get a monitor. The pain in your side is definitely not your pancreas or liver.

Hi Noogsy,
great to have you with us.
I used to get headaches when I first made changes to my diet. I think it is the body adapting to change. Drinking lots of water really helped with that one.
Now, you can get a blood monitor on prescription or give Accu-Chek a call and they will send you one free to get you started. Then you will be able to get your strips for it on prescription.
I expect at this stage, you feel angry, weepy, frustrated and a little rebellious. This is all normal and we have all been there! These feelings will pass as you start to take control.
Have a really good read around the forum and ask lots of questions. The only stupid question is the unasked one. Also, have a good vent here when you need one. We all do it.
You are not alone and you can do this!
Heather.

ahh noogsy, firstly welcome to the group, DF is a wonderful place to hang out and learn a LOT about this disease. for one thing...you are not alone! we have all been scared half to death with the diagnosis at some time.
phone your gp and tell him about your pain in your side, before the bank holiday gets under way. then you arent worrying all weekend.
second thing, you are going to be totally bombarded with information over the next couple of weeks, just hang in there, everything will click into place, i expect you are feeling a little overwhelmed. just take everything a step at a time.
once you start your treatment, get your diet into some sort of order and get your blood monitoring under way your symptoms will improve as your glucose levels settle down.
if you have any questions at all, we are here to hold your hand.
