:) Hi! This is my first post and I thought I would introduce myself. I was diagnosed as Type 2 in October, 2005. This day changed my life, but not necessarily in a bad way. In a way it has saved it! At that time, I was 239 lbs and ate whatever, whener. Now, I'm 151 lbs and looking and feeling much better! I was diagnosed after finally getting an appointment with a "sliding scale" clinic and never going to the doctor because of no insurance. The local health department suspected my diabetes and told me to come for a fasting BS. It was 126 and they referred me to the clinic. On my first visit, I told the Dr. about the health dept referral, and that I did have symptoms, and was told.."lots of people feel this way sometimes, you're probably not diabetic". But, I was tested and told to come back the following week for results. When I returned, the Dr. walked in and said, "Well, you have diabetes". Even though I thought it myself, I was stunned that it was confirmed. During that week, I had decided that if diagnosed, I was gonna change my life. Well, I gave up sweets and cut down what I ate from that very day, and never looked back! I was started on Metformin 500mg twice a day, then it was doubled a couple of months later...so now I take Metformin 500mg 2 tabs twice a day. I had (and sometimes still do) terrible diarrhea, but it helped lose weight and make me healthier, so I endured it. I had an a1c 2 days ago, which was 5.7. I have never had really high glucose readings, just a little over the limit. I got a call this morning from the Dr. saying that my CBC was abnormal and that they needed to do some further testing on the blood they had...should've asked them the labs and what tests they were gonna do, but being surprised, I didn't. Guess we'll see how that turns out......I never eat sweets at all, unless sugar free, but I don't really watch my carbs...this seems to work for me for now....I have apparently been suffering from neuropathy though, as I have leg pain a lot at night and take Amitriptylline 50mg at night for it. The Dr's never really told me that (at first I assumed it was Restless Leg Syndrome) but after reading up on it, I found out that they treat neuropathy with Amitriptylline, and not RLS. That's pretty much my story....glad to be here.
