I would first like to introduce myself. I am Simon Hanson, Diagnosed Type 1 Aug 2006 @ 35 years Old. On Diagnoses my BG was 67, yes you did not miss read it, I was not in a coma but can’t remember the first few hours in hospital, my A1C was 22% & I had very serious DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). I did not know the symptoms of diabetes, but now looking back I was showing all of them. I work as am IT Contractor the last few weeks I have been working 50+ hours, when I finished the contract and got home I just thought I was over tired, but one night at I keeled over at and got rushed to Russell’s Hall A&E.
Thinking about it I was very lucky, my A1C is now 5.2%, average BG readings are about 6 & my lowest low was 2.9 which is not really a major hypo.

Wow fantastic job.

Just an FYI: a 2.9 is major, especially if you are driving a car full of kids at high speed. Maybe this one didn't affect you much, but the next one could.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the site. My wife found it looking for information on my insulin and glucometers. We read through a few of the threads and thought this might be an interesting site.

I have been a type 2 diabetic for 10 years. Just recently I was switched from oral medication to insulin. So a new phase in my life...:)

I am married and have a 8 yr-old son who keeps me active. Also, I have a 27 yr-old daughter from a previous marriage. So some days I feel my age more than others. ;)

I have a question that I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me with. My wife is in the "downsizing" mode around our house and I have several previous models of glucometers that are still good but I've updated models regularly since I'd get the meters free with the strips etc. Does anyone know if there is somewhere to donate items such as this or because of callabration concerns etc, they just need to be thrown out. Also it should be noted that I'm from Canada so our BS readings are in mimimol's. So different than the US.

Anyway....nice to meet everyone and I will stop back or maybe my wife will be on more than I will be. Between the two of us, I'm sure we'll be around.

My name is Neal and I am from Mobile, AL. I have been a diabetic since 2003 (maybe longer), but that's when I was diagnosed. I am attending college to become a teacher in an elementary school. I currently have one year left of school before I get my Master's degree. Anyways, my doctor told me that I was more of a type 1 diabetic, and he could possibly think I was a type 2. I have just really started taking better care of myself since 3 months ago....mainly because i'm tired of feeling bad. I have felt so much better keeping my diabetes under control.
