Hi Folks,
I'm new here and jusy wanted to check in. I was diagnosed in Jan 92 with type 2. Started Insulin about 2 years ago and Byetta about a year ago. I have lost about 25 pounds in the last year and a half (215 to around 190). My a1c was 6.5 about six months ago. I'm fairly content with most of my progress. My never ending battle is an overwhelming craving for BREAD! Seems like I can only be good for so long and then I'm very, very bad. I've recently been trying to find some sort of suppot group to help me stay on the path more consistantly :) . Thats it for now, Thanks for being here.

HI & Welcome to the forum.

I miss bread too, especially warm Italian or French breads! You can eat bread as long as you do so in moderation. Stick with Whole Grains, they're better for you.

Hi pdxdennisj. I know exactly where you are coming from. I, also, have a craving for bread. I try to buy the low carb breads (5 carbs/slice), and find them to be quite satisfying. I'll average about 2 slices per day. It's best if I not have it at all, since I'm trying to lose a few more pounds. Since starting on Byetta several months ago, the bread really doesn't affect my BG levels as much, so I can get away with indulging a bit.

Welcome Dennis. I, too, miss my bread. I buy the Nature's own, double fiber bread when I absolutely have to have it....they have burger buns and sliced bread...5 carbs/slice...not as good as white IMHO, but it's better than no bread at all. I probably have bread every 2-3 weeks...If I let myself, I could have it every day and i'm really trying to lose weight.

Find the bread that raises your blood sugar the least by testing 2 hrs after your first bit of sandwich...you'll know when you find the right one.

I eat bread. whole grain and no corn syrup. Just not much. The upside of the more expensive bread is that it lasts weeks. I also like the taste better. White bread is only good for keeping your fingers from getting dirty when eating. I will usually make my sandwich by putting out the bread, putting the filling on it and stop myself from putting the top slice on and folding the bottom over. You cut your bread in half that way.

We had a weekend away this past weekend and ate at Cracker Barrell. They have a sour dough wheat toast and I got it with my scrambled eggs and bacon. My 2 hr reading was 111, so it had very little effect on my blood sugar. I wouldn't have this a lot, but it was a nice weekend treat.
